    Sky Email setup and settings

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I have just managed to SEND from OE. When the persistent prompt came up, I changed from Sky details to my Gmail UN and PW, and the message went. But it didn't work for RECEIVING - the prompt just kept returning. But I can find no advice from Sky to change to my Gmail details - I've just been trying everything in desperation.

I have got Outlook Express working at last.It was because I had two passwords one for email&tools and one for Mysky.I used the unlockcaptcha to get rid of one password then used just the Mysky one and Outlook worked.
      should have stayed with Pipex

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

deepkent I would be tempted to put everything back as it was. I think you need to resolve the sky thing without complicating it with googlemail username, password and servers etc.

I have both old googlemail and skoogle running through Oulook without a problem.

Two things left to try after you put everything back as it was

      1)https://www.google.com/a/sky.com/UnlockCaptcha

      2) A password reset via the sky portal. Log out and then log back in put in your sky username and click on the forgotten password link. (dont forget to update Outlook with the new password after you do this)

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Right, you are going to get yourself all tied in knots if you carry on! :-)

You must use your Sky username and password. There is no point using the gmail ones as you are simply setting up your other gmail account if you do that!

The thing is with this new sky service is that it is basically a branded version of Gmail. All the settings for Gmail work for Sky and the only difference is that you put in username@sky.com and your sky password to access the account.

I know you must be very bored and frustrated by now, but shall we start again?

If you delete the entry in outlook for your Sky account and try setting it up with the following instructions:

First of all go here and enter your username and password. You only need to put in the first part of your username, not the @sky.com bit. Fill in the captcha code underneath and press Unlock.

If you can't get past this then there is something wrong elsewhere. Please post what happens and we'll try to find a solution.

If that works then follow the instructions below:

      1. Open Outlook.

      2. Click the Tools menu, and select E-mail Accounts...

      3. Click Add a new e-mail account, and click Next.

      4. Choose POP3 as your server type by clicking the radio button, and click Next.

      5. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:

      User Information
Your Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From: field of outgoing messages.
Email Address: Enter your full Sky email address (username@sky.com)

      Server Information
      Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.googlemail.com
      Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.googlemail.com

      Login Information
User Name: Enter your Sky username (username@sky.com)
      Password: Enter your sky password

      6. Click More Settings... and then click the Outgoing Server tab.

      7. Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

      8. Click the Advanced tab, and check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming Server (POP3).

      9. Check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Outgoing Server (SMTP), and enter 465 in the Outgoing server (SMTP) box.

      10. Click OK.

      11. Click Test Account Settings... After receiving Congratulations! All tests completed successfully, click Close.

      12. Click Next, and then click Finish.

Get this far and then post what happens.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I can't believe the trouble you're taking - thank you!

Unfortunately, I can't get past the first step in your detailed advice. I went to https://www.google.com/a/sky.com/UnlockCaptcha, entered my UN and PW and copied in the text string, and I was told "Username and password do not match". Yet they are the same ones that I have for my email, and they get me into my account on sky.com. This has now happened five times.

      Thanks again.

Oh, I did first delete the sky account in Outlook, as you advised.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      My suggestion now

A password reset via the sky portal. Log out and then go to the login page enter your sky username only and click on the forgotten password link. Follow the link (I think it asks you a security question) and then insert a new password (dont forget to update Outlook with the new password after you do this)

Then log back in using new password go to email settings make sure POP is enabled then try outlook again.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Sadly, we have just tried that and it ended up with the same result. I also tried setting up an additional user on his account, but it had the same password error.

My feeling is that the account itself is busted in some way. So either it will get fixed over the coming days, or it will be a phone call to Sky!

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

OK I give in but I've got to admit I hate being beaten by muppets!

Just hope it turns out to be the servers that have somehow got out of sync and hope it will correct itself over the next day or two but I doubt that very much. More likely something corrupted in the transfer to Skoogle.

You have to agree that Sky are Premier League as far as buggering stuff up goes and it seems to be the only thing they do well!

As I said earlier I'm disgusted that even now there's still been no formal acknowledgement of any problems with the Skoogle transfer even existing and certainly no apology or explanation from Sky to their customers either on their website (when it works) or via the "Sky Broadband Team" on here!

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I'm getting exactly the same problem.

I try to log in and it says that my username and password do not match.

I try the Google unlock thing and no joy.

I then try the Password change on Sky (which I've tried about ten times now) and it enables me to change, saying that I have successfully changed my password, but then won't allow me to log in saying that my username and password do not match.

I don't know what's more annoying. The fact that these things are happening or the fact that they (SKY) are not being helpful in the slightest. If you know people are having these problems at least put a response up as to what they should do or how long to wait for. Despite the decent price, it's not been decent value for me (with my speed only at 2mb at the most, often around 1mb when my line can accept 3mb and constantly dropping the connection and numerous other issues, such as waiting nearly 4 months to be connected) so I think it's time to look around for one of the more expensive yet better quality broadband deals.
