If you are on Outlook or Outlook Express I would give this little program a go - it's the Google POP troubleshooter.

You can use it to test your Skoogle settings - it is worth remembering that you can also use pop.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com in place of the Sky servers so if the troubleshooter wants to change it, then let it.

It's also worth taking a look here

On the enabling POP bit the two options are not selected when you go in but just above them it will say 1. Status: What does it say there?

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

In case anyone uses Apple Mail like me, I was having no problems logging in to Skoogle via the web interface, but couldn't get Apple Mail POP to work. Phoning Sky technical support, and looking at the "Configuring your email client: Apple Mail" both suggested using 587 as the outgoing Server port (in fact the tech guy told me to use it for incoming as well—or maybe I got confused!) In fact I found that using the instructions for "other" e-mail clients worked better: 465 instead of 587 as the outgoing port and 995 as the incoming port. Turned SSL on, set authentication to password in both Advanced and Outgoing Mail server settings. No problems at the moment... I also tried these port settings with Entourage 2004 for Mac, which also now works. However I was stymied for a moment. I had sent myself test messages which weren't arriving, even though Entourage was logging on OK. Looking at Skoogle Mail's forwarding and POP settings on line, it seemed that POP was only enabled for a time just after I'd sent them (there must have been a glitch so that the program thought the messages had been downloaded—I had closed Apple Mail to avoid this). Enabling POP for all messages allowed me to download them.

I am using Mail Mail with port 587. 465 will also work though as you have found out.

The test message thing is as Gmail feature. Messages sent to yourself are not downloaded into your POP client. As you have found, going in a re-clicking on the pop settings makes them come down, but next time you send a test the same thing will happen. It's done by design.

youravinalarrrf: You're right again, as usual! My status shows that POP is enabled. Just didn't look closely enough. I must be the dimmest and dumbest contributor on this site - maybe that's why I can't get my mail. but even the dumbest deserve their email, right? Thanks again for not simply flaming me!

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

OK thanks for the useful info! Looks like 587 does now work for me too now. So heaven knows what was wrong before—perhaps it was the Sky servers as the tech guy suggested—but as it ain't broke now, I won't fix it again... :-)

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Thanks, the_sky_goat and youravinalarrrf. The result of using the program is shown in the screenshot. I clicked on "Help me fix this issue" in both cases - the first was successful, and the second said my username and password were not accepted. I suddenly had a brainwave, and entered my Gmail UN and PW (I got them before UK users were forced to Googlemail instead), and the test message was sent. But:

      1. I still keep being prompted for my username and password - again and again and again.

      2. For all I know, this access will only result in getting mail from my Gmail account, not from Sky - is that true?

Really, then, I can't progress further until I can stop that UN and PW prompt from continually coming up. As I said, I followed one "solution" link which was useless. I'm still Googling, but all I'm coming up with is that the problem is common and nobody knows the answer.

BTW, all the problems I've listed for Outlook 2003 are exactly the same in Outlook Express 6.

Thanks again for all the patience I'm being shown.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Sorry again. I left out one crucial link. I had success in testing settings in Outlook after I followed the Google POP Troubleshooter's advice to change my server settings to: pop.googlemail.com and to smtp.googlemail.com. And that's why I changed to my Gmail UN and PW. So they seem to be the settings I need - but nowhere does Sky tell us this!
