      Sky web mail & Thunderbird.

Like others I have problems accessing the Sky portal to use the Sky web-mail which I need to do when I am away on a different computer. I had wondered whether to dowload the portable Thunderbird app onto a portable pen drive but I cannot follow how to set up the e-mail. Has anyone tried this and if so have you any guidance?

If you want to run the portable Thunderbird when you are not on a Sky broadband connection it will not work because Sky don't allow you to access the Sky POP3 and SMTP servers from outside the Sky network.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

I use Thunderbird version 1.0.7 and it works very well for my Sky mail, using pop.sky.com as the server name. Your username should be the one on the letter Sky sent you.

Thanks, everyone. I am not using Thunderbird yet, I have been happy enough with Outlook Express and Sky. It was the slowness and unreliability of Sky web mail that encouraged me to look at other options when away from my home computer and I came upon this: .
It seemed to me to be ideal to install Thunderbird and transfer the settings etc. to a pen drive to carry around. If I am away (I am going on a cruise shortly) I should be able to plug in the pen drive and avoid wasting all the costly time waiting for the Sky portal to give up it's mysteries.

However, if things are as aos101 tells me, I am wasting my time.

Thanks again everyone. After a lot of perseverance, I have managed the download and set up the Thunderbird e-mail account using the settings in my Sky OE account and, importantly the same password.

My drive is only 125mb and yet I can cart around my e-mail app on it and use it anywhere.

Re: Sky web mail & Thunderbird.

      Hi guys
I don't have a sky-email, is it not possible to use my portable thunderbird with a sky-SMTP?!? I can receive my emails but I can not send them.
