I spoke too soon! On Monday, both Thunderbird and Mailwasher stopped working.

I went down the 16 digit route and used the same password on all my Win10 email applications, which worked without a hitch.

I haven't tried the Android system on my phone yet, so I don't know whether the same password will work there too. Has anyone tried that yet?

As Sky frequently archive older threads, I've posted the link above on purpose. At least that way if someone comes along after rebuilding a computer, they can still have some hope.

...at least until the page that the password is on goes down.

I would highly recommend that you make a secure record somewhere of those 16 character passwords.

Re: Update your email application today

I've received this notification on my secondary email and I've updated the password, using the link above as I'm using Thunderbird.

I'm concerned that if I am forced to change the password to my primary email, that will also change my Sky login password too. I don't want to have to faff around with a 16 digit password every time I want to check my Sky account, I'm guaranteed to **** it up. Does anyone know if the 2 passwords can be different?

Re: Update your email application today

I have set up the 16 character password for my normal email client and all appears to be fine. Don't forget to change both the receiving and sending password. I would also recommend that you make a not of the 16 character password just in case you need it at a later date when you rebuild your computer, for example.

I'm still able to use my "normal" password if I log in via my web browser or through the other email client that I set up. I also use the 'normal' password on my phone's Yahoo! Mail app.

Yes the two passwords are completely separate, in fact the 16 digit one is just a one off for use whilst the generator is active so there is really no need to remember it.

Cheers, thanks for that info. Just made the change and all is working okay - 'til Yahoo breaks again.

My Sky email is still working fine on both Thunderbird and iPhone standard email app. Only weird thing is on iPhone IMAP works but not in Thunderbird, have to use POP3.

Re: Update your email application today

      Ok, this is getting better.

One of my Yahoo! Mail accounts is no longer sending messages. After a little searching, I've found that in the security settings for my Yahoo! account there is now an option to generate a similar 16 digit password. This I have done, but for the moment it isn't working.

I'm going to see how this progresses and allow the cache in the servers to catch up. It doesn't look good.

Interesting. I have 2 yahoo accounts. One is still working normally with Thunderbird; the other isn't. It's too late to investigate tonight, so I'll look into it tomorrow.

Ok, well things appear to be working at the moment.

They really have messed things up over their major hiccup security flaw from a few years ago.
