How to Trace and old Email
Hi
In June 2014 I sent an email with an attached document to a solicitor dealing a legal matter on my behalf. The email was sent from my iPhone 5 which I no longer own.
I now need to prove that I sent this email as I'm suing the solicitor for negligence, however the email doesn't appear in my sent items on the Yahoo Mail web interface.
Is there any way to get a copy of the sent item via Yahoo?
Thanks in advance.

I am not aware of any way you will be able to retrieve the email you sent unfortunately.

Re: How to Trace and old Email
I know that if I send an email using the Yahoo! mail app on my android phone, the email is stored in my sent folder.
The same contents are visible using the app on both my phone and my tablet. If I log into my account using my browser and look in the sent folder it is also there.
This is not true when I use the client on my laptop though. Any sent emails are only stored on my laptop when I use the client.
So in short, it would pay to look at the sent folder and see it it is there. Next search all your emails (you can also sort them in different orders too) to see if it is in the wrong folder. You may have moved it.

Re: How to Trace and old Email
Unfortunately unless you received an acknowledgement for the email there is no proof it was ever received. Email is not a guaranteed service, especially so when it is Yahoo.

Re: How to Trace and old Email
How true that is, as I'm now finding out!
Thanks to all who have responded. Prior to posting I checked all my folders using the web interface, but to no avail. The problem is that I sent the original email from an iPhone which I no longer have. I called Sky yesterday evening and they've confirmed that in this case there won't be any copy of the email on the Yahoo server.
Strikes me as odd that this email doesn't exist anywhere else. Anyone up to no good has only to communicate with his friends via his phone if he doesn't want there to be a record of his emails. Or am I over simplifying this?

Re: How to Trace and old Email
For reference, which app did you use to send the email on your iPhone?

Re: How to Trace and old Email
Hi. I just used the standard iPhone email app. I might look at downloading the Yahoo email client if it means that future emails sent from my current iPhone will appear on the web client.

Re: How to Trace and old Email
I would definitely recommend it.
Obviously do check things out once you have it installed, but as I mentioned earlier this is the case with my own.
As for the law firm, sorry but it looks like you'll need to check another option.

Subbie
Thanks for your replies. Looking in the App Store, most of the reviews for the Yahoo app for iPhone are pretty dire, which doesn't surprise me as I've never been happy with the web client since Sky moved from Google to Yahoo. Methinks that for now I'll BCC any important emails back to me and wait for,Yahoo to improve their app.
Regarding the solicitor, I have every other email between us and so have other options; this particular email would have been very useful for part of my claim, but I have other leverage I can use!

Re: How to Trace and old Email
You should check the settings on your laptop email client. There should be an IMAP setting allowing you to store sent emails on the server. I do this with Gmail without any issues, can't see Yahoo being any different. Same goes for deleted mail, the only thing to avoid are drafts as some clients can end up creating multiple copies every time you write something.
