      Help with OE.

      Help with OUTLOOK EXPRESS

      I have just changed my service provider to SKY from Talktalk.

      When I was with Talktalk, my Outlook Express was set up as follows :
      mail.talktalk.net - Port 25 and,
      smtp.talktalk.net - Port 110

      Since the switch I can still receive emails but am unable to send out!

      I have had various conversations with Sky officials who told me I should change the outgoing mail ports to 995 or 465 or 587.

      None have said the the SSL should be ticked - in fact they said leave that alone.

      Well, I still cannot get the email to send out (in any port) ....is there anyone out there that could help me sort this problem ?

      Many thanks.

      Try this, make sure you select the Express tab on the webpage;

      You are using the sky yahoo email address to authenticate?
      What error are you getting?

      You will not be able to send through the TalkTalk SMTP server using the Sky server. Put smtp.tools.sky.com or smtp.mail.yahoo.com the SMTP server box and your mails will go. If you are now with Sky, you should change your email address as TT may close your email account.

      Re: Help with OE.

      As a serious recommendation, please DO update your computer.

      Outlook Express has not been supported by M$ for several years now. If there are any security holes which were not patched up by M$, your computer and emails are at risk.

      There are many options available, but in case you are interested the Windows Live Mail is pretty close to OE and has a feature which will copy your emails across from OE.

      I would suggest that you not any rules and things first if you use them as you are most likely going to need to set them up again.

      Re: Help with OE.

      Extended support for Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP Professional will still be available until April 8, 2014.
      So there will be free security fixes through Windows Update until April 8, 2014.

      That is also the case for Windows Server 2003 (integrated outlook express also), that has Extended support until July 14, 2015.

      From Vista onwards, it was Windows Mail...

      Interesting one on this;

      From the TalkTalk FAQ
      TalkTalk offer email which remains accessible even after customers have moved to another ISP.
      However, when you cancel your TalkTalk account you lose access to your control panel, so you may not be able to make changes to your email account, such as changing the password.
      Just as when TalkTalk email users are with the provider, the account will become inactive if it isn't used for 90 consecutive days.
      Inactivity just puts the account 'to sleep', though. It doesn't delete it but the address will stop receiving emails.
      So if users log in again after 90 days the account will again become active and start receiving emails again.

      So forget your password and you are in trouble.

      Re: Help with OE.

      Thanks lettice. I was under the impression that support had been withdrawn a few years ago for OE6.

      However I would still recommend that people upgrade. It took a little getting used to at first, but Windows Live Mail is much better.
