I get several error dialog boxes pop up when I try and send / receive data.
So do I, it seems to be looking at every folder for new emails. emails only go into folders when I put them in so it won't find any new ones.
I think it just times out as it involves a different folder every time.
I just delete the dialogue boxes, never lost an email so far.

I have been trying both Live Mail and Thunderbird and Live Mail is very slow and times out a lot whereas Thunderbird works perfectly so there must be some difference in their implementation of the IMAP protocol. My recommendation would be that if you wish to use IMAP then stick with Thunderbird.

      Hi all

Thanks all for the replies. I have got IMAP to work with Windows Live Mail but, like moleman says above, I get the timed out error message occasionally.
      May try Thunderbird.

      Thanks again

Although IMAP is working, I am still not sure it's fully functional.
I use Windows Live Mail desktop client to send and receive. However, when I send an email, it does not seem to be copied into my Sent folder in the desktop client or on the server. But if I create a new folder in WLM it gets replicated on the server as you would expect. Likewise if I delete messages in the folder on WLM, they are deleted on the server. Checked the sync settings in the folder in WLM and they look OK. Anyone seeing similar ?

My sent items appear in "sent items" under Storage folders. Which is something I didn't create.

Re: Email on multiple devices, PC, iPhone & iPad - how, now there is no IMAP

I wonder if you made the same mistake I did. I edited the existing profile in WLM and changed the server addresses for the new yahoo servers. I got same result as you ie sent mail was going to the "sent items" folder in Storage folders. If you look in the IMAP tab in the profile it will prob still have the folders prefixed as Gmail. I set up a new profile from scratch with the Yahoo server details which sorted the IMAP folders and then let it sync and download all the folders and contents from scratch. Sent mail now goes into the correct folder.
When happy delete the old account.

Well it did work. Yesterday during changing to POP on live mail, first they lost my password, reset as instructed then repeated prompts for password. help from SKY to sort out with no success, then they lost my username and all my emails. result I now have a gmail address.
Lot of work informing banks etc. pity about lost emails.
