No, it's still going strong. I'm still on classic with my Yahoo account. I didn't agree with the terms and conditions of the change a few years back, nor did their "upgrade" add any functionality I needed.

If you are using a desktop client with SSL turned on, can they still read your mail?
Yes, as far as I'm aware, they can and will read all your mail. Ssl is primarily to prevent third parties easily reading any intercepted data between you and Yahoo, ie on a shared or public network like a cafe etc.

It's also been reported that enabling SSL can get rid of the adverts, which i was also interested in doing.

Edit: Also, i just realised some of those comments on the sophos site from bt yahoo users are as recent as march, so there must be 1000's of others that don't have the option to enable SSL.

      Naughty yahoo.

I would say yes as the SSL only protects it whilst it transverses the internet. Once it's on their servers it will be unencrypted.

Edit, I hadn't read benalin's reply earlier - he already said the same thing. Doh!

So the only way to keep your correspondence away from prying eyes is to use something like PGP? - The GNU Privacy Guard - GnuPG.org

For this to work your recipient would also have to use Privacy Guard.

True, the recipient has to have your key.
