    Yahoo better than Google?

This is a discussion on Yahoo better than Google? within the Sky Email and Portal Log-in forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I'm not expecting many positive replies to this, but has anyone found anything about Sky Yahoo mail that is better ...

I guess Sky has otherwise they would never have changed service providers. Hopefully they too will regret their rash decision.

No,I'm now sticking with G Mail as my main e mail service. For people with computers (and that's most of us) then e mails are an important part of our lives and Sky were wrong to mess about with this move, its caused unnecessary aggravation and was totally unwanted by nearly all of us,looking at various forums.
I would imagine that the Virgin Broadband service will get a lot of new customers over the next few weeks.
      Regards to all.

Having had Yahoo email accounts for a number of years feel well qualified to comment.
The webmail interface is easier to use than Gmail but yahoo are terrible when it comes to spam/junk mail filtering and I suspect sky are going to see many people not using their new system.
GMail does have good spam blocking and this is what users will miss.
I managed to avoid transferring one sky email address over but accidentally transferred another and I cant find how to and neither sky or yahoo will respond and yahoo have the delete account in their options. Sky appear to have removed this option

I agree. I rarely get any junk/spam via GMail but am plagued with it from a Yahoo Mail account.

I don't use my @sky email address much but I do have incoming @sky email redirected to my @mydomain email address. This wasn't transferred during the switch and I've had to do this manually. Despite my choosing the Sky settings 'Forward' email (ie delete on server after forwarding) I found my Sky webmail was full of old emails so that didn't work very well either.

I won't use my @sky email address in future and just rely upon the forwarding function to catch any incoming email, if that proves to be mainly Yahoo junk/spam then I'll just stop using the account at all and accept I won't receive some email.

What a mess Sky are making of their email service.

      Re: Yahoo better than Google?

Going back to the OP's question, yes, I have found one small improvement.

I use my own domain name email address eg me@mydomain.co.uk. When I used to send using Skoogle it insisted on sending from "[me@sky.com] on behalf of [me@mydomain.co.uk]".

Yahoo (after I added my domain name to the account) now allows me to send from "me@mydomain.co.uk". Small compensation for all the other apparent drawbacks but you did ask

Wow, perhaps there will be no need for the skyuser SMTP server. Glenn can have longer in bed.

Completely by accident! The first time we tried to send email from Outlook after the changeover it wouldn't go and just stayed in the Outbox. The error message was something about sender account not recognised which pointed me to the Yahoo help page. I followed the instructions for adding another email address to the account (skipping the page about receiving), clicked the link in the email they sent me to activate it, and job done. I only noticed later that it was actually sending from my domain name rather than sky.com. which was a bonus.

I do hope that the Skyuser SMPT service continnues as I've found this to be invaluable and would be lost without it!
