    my whole inbox is being redownloaded....

    This is a discussion on my whole inbox is being redownloaded.... within the Sky Email and Portal Log-in forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; My Windows Mail folder now has over 30,000 new messages and plenty still to go!...

      @alex-k : Please dump Outlook Express. It hasn't been updated for a couple of years now and if there are any holes that hackers have found, they will not be patched.

      There are a variety of clients to choose from. Windows Live Mail is very similar to OE and you can import things from it too. I would highly recommend that you backup the email folders, your contacts and the account details before you do this though.

      It is also possible to backup the rules/filters too, but this requires you to access the Registry.

      It will download one more copy. After that only new messages will be available for download. I would move your existing inbox into another folder then after the next download, select all and deselect any new messages before deleting.

      does anyone know if this would work?

      move my current inbox into a new folder, then let it receive all the duplicates into the box and then delete it?

      On Sky's Help & Support page:

      Following switchover to Sky Yahoo! Mail, some of our customers are noticing a large number of emails being downloaded to their email client.

      We’re aware of this issue. It’s happening because we’re copying your email messages across to your new mailbox. Once we’ve finished, the messages your new Sky Yahoo! Mail inbox should be the same as those in your mailbox before switchover.

      That's OK as far as the Web Mail is concerned, but it is not going to make one bit of difference to emails being downloaded to the desktop client. Someone should have foreseen what was going to happen when the email of a user who had allowed emails to build up in their All Mail folder was transferred to Yahoo. The mistake has been compounded by having something like 'Virtually unlimited storage so no need to deleted an email ever again' as a slogan on the old Sky Gmail. Not the exact wording, but something very similar.

      One thing you could do is open a throw-away hotmail account and redirect all the Sky mail to it until such time as the massive numbers of mail being received has reduced. You might miss some mail, but that may be the price you have to pay to get it sorted out.

      Finally stopped at 65,000 plus. Now I've got to delete most of them.

      Been on for 5 hours now and it's only about 50% completed. A simple "select all" button on the webmail would solve this as I could select all then delete, but no, it has to be gone through page by page and selected then deleted. Which fool thought this bright idea through
