It is I'm afraid... banks, paypal, ebay, "we couldn't deliver your parcel", "Re your recent order" and even inland revenue. From my experience, you will need to be much more on your toes with yahoo...

Under the old system I got maybe 4 or 5 Spam mails in my Inbox on my PC in a year. Since the Yahoo switch I'm getting about 12 a day and my anti-virus software has already quarantined 3 emails containing viruses. This getting silly.

Are all the potential spam messages being marked as 'Bulk'?

Have you visited the Sky site, logged in to your email and changed the options?

Click the 'cog' in the top right hand corner, select 'Mail Option' from the pull down menu. Next Click 'POP & Forwarding' on the left. Ensure that the radial button beside 'Access Sky Yahoo! Mail via POP ' is selected, then pick 'Download spam, but prefix the word "Spam"' from the pull down menu to the right of that heading is selected.

What you can do next is to set up a filter in your client to place any emails with 'Spam' in the subject line to a folder called 'Potential Spam'. Periodically check this folder for emails which you wish to keep then select the rest and delete all the rest.

Scubbie my spam are marked as "spam" and I don't have a "bulk" folder. It looks like the spam handling works slightly differently for some people.

Hi. Yes, I understand all that. My point is that with the old system the host filtering was intelligent enough that I didn't have to go through all this procedure and as I said earlier, I got maybe 4 or 5 spam mails a year in my inbox at home; and I certainly never got any viruses at all.

IIRC, the few 'good' emails that the host filter thought might be Spam had already been marked [spam] so that I could sift through them in my 'Possible Spam' folder that I'd created on the PC. I didn't have to set this up myself at the web interface. It does seem strange that the default position in 'Mail Options' is 'Download Spam'.

Its probably so they can't be accused of someone missing an important mail due to a "false positive"

moleman has hit the nail on the head. -> "False Positives"

Whilst it is fantastic to have the Spam filter pick up things, essentially they can be too successful at times.

There are a large number of messages on Sky's forums, here and no doubt all the other forums where people are advised to check their spam folders for missing messages. The reason for me suggesting the name "Potential Spam" is to highlight this problem.

As for the longer term, I can right click naughty messages in my client. I then choose the 'Spam' option and choose the appropriate response. The spam messages get filed and hopefully my client doesn't allow anything else to happen.
