      Accessing Webmail

      Hi All

Since yesterday I have been having problems accessing my emails. I normally just sign into the sky.com home page to access them. However, I am now getting a message "unable to access the webpage". I am using ie9 and have tried with compatability settings switched on and off. The strange thing is I am able to access my emails by using Chrome!

I contacted SKY last night and was told they have just started having some problems - if that was the case I would have expected a few more posts here this morning.

Incidentally, I have an engineer booked for Saturday due to broadband issues.

Can anyone advise re the email issue as the engineer will not deal with that on Saturday - apparently.

      Thanks
      Karen

      Re: Accessing Webmail

The Engineer will be from BTO and will know nothing about Sky's email systems, unless as a Sky Customer he happens to have one too.

If there is an issue, can I suggest that you purge all your cache and cookies and try to log in again please?

To do this, in IE9, click: Tools --> Internet Options. Then under the heading 'Browsing History' click the 'Delete...' button. Ensure that 'Temporary Internet Files' and 'Cookies' are both selected and click 'Delete'. The process may take a few minutes. Once it is complete you will get a prompt at the bottom of your screen. At this point try again.

Thanks Scubbie - I will give that a go tonight when I am back home. Here's hoping!

      Hi

I have tried to delete the browsing history etc and that hasn't solved the problem i'm afraid. Any more suggestions - all remedies gratefully received.

      Thanks

      Re: Accessing Webmail

First ensure that you have cookies and javascript enabled. If that doesn't work try changing "user-agent" so that IE9 reports itself to Sky's/Gmail's webmail server as Chrome and see if that allows you to view your mail.
To change the user agent string, first open up developer's tools. This can be done by clicking on the tools icon and selecting developer's tools. Or else, press f12. In developer's tool select tools and then change user agent string. You can choose any of the 7 default strings (Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 6, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Bing bot (I have no idea why developers want to pretend to be bing bot.

      Hi seawright

      Thanks for your help.
I have tried changing to Google Chrome via developers tools and that didn't work either - it's all very strange!

Looks like I will just have to use Chrome as the workaround.

      Have a good weekend.

      Re: Accessing Webmail

If you are using IE9 with Windows 7 then you can now upgrade to IE10 which is IMO a better browser than any previous incarnation of IE, more stable and quicker to load.
No problems here with Sky web mail or on three other peoples pc's that I support.

      Re: Accessing Webmail

What a headache! It doesn't work as well as IE9 at the moment on the forums. I can't hit <Return>, it keeps telling me that I need to contact the Administrator when I click 'Post Quick Reply' and I have to click 'Go Advanced' which loses what I've typed. I can't even post the image I wanted to show now
