      Connecting an External Cloud HDD

      Hi Guys
I'm thinking of buying an Iomega Network HDD Cloud Edition so I can access pictures and movies, etc while I'm away from home (I do a lot of travelling).

I have contacted Iomega. To use the Cloud feature, they say I must open up (or forward) ports 50500 to 50599 (specifically ports 443 and 50500, if I cannot open a block of ports). The Sky support people say there's nothing to stop me but won't tell me how to open these ports as they don't support such things. A friend showed me on their Belkin Router, where the ports were laid out in columns. But this is not the case when I looked at the Sky Netgear router's control panel.

I don't want to play about with router so I wonder if anyone's connected an Iomega Cloud HDD and what the steps are to opening ports 443 and 50500?

Seprately, if I bought a Belkin Router, I assume I could just plug it in to replace Sky's Netgear or is that forbidden?)

      Regards,
      Graham

If you have uPnP enabled on your router your NAS should be able to set up port forwarding as required. Ok so you haven't purchased the NAS yet but if you go to Iomega's website and download the handbook there should be instructions in there on setting up access from the internet.

      Iomega Network HDD Cloud Edition

I just had a look at this after reading this thread. I thought that sounds interesting and could be usefull to me. Unfortunately the reviews are not good especially the you tube ones. Not a lot of help with your question I know but I thought you might want to know.

      Hi
Thanks for your replies. I'll look into uPnP, Seawright. FYI, Pete, the one I've seen in action seems to work.
