      Gmail or Sky E-mail?

      Hi there,

I know that Sky E-mail is powered by Google, but is it any better or is there nothing to gain if I wanted to move from Gmail?

      regards

There is little to be gained or lost. There is no reason why you shouldn't use both, many do.

      Re: Gmail or Sky E-mail?

Does the Sky email address stay active if you cancel your broadband? It can be a pain relying on an ISPs email then having to tell everyone you have moved.

I have gmail as my main email and have the Sky email set up to forward everything to it. Works well, the only thing to watch is that replying from a non-Sky gmail account will show 'from xxx@gmail.com on behalf of xxx@sky.com'. If I want the reply from Sky then I either have to log in or use the excellent Sky User SMTP service via Outlook, which send the sky.com reply address untouched.

Sky email is for life. You do not have to subscribe to Sky in any way to continue using it.

You just need to login at least once every few months to keep it active.

That's true, I think it applies to all free Web based email, if it is not accessed at least every 90 days or so, it dies.

      Re: Gmail or Sky E-mail?

I presume you want Gmail to fetch your sky emails ?

If so click on settings > accounts & import > add a pop3 mail account you own

      And enter the details required.

      Re: Gmail or Sky E-mail?

An alternative is to get Sky mail to forward all emails to your gmail account (settings/forwarding and POP/IMAP). That will forward emails immediately, POP3 has to wait for the receiver to poll the sending account, usually every 5 minutes or longer.

If you do that you can also use filters to mark emails read or move them into folders, the same as in Gmail.
