      Re: smtp outlook problems

smtp isn't used for accessing emails - smtp sends them. You may have a problem with the pop3 set up that receives your emails. Have you checked the ports you should specify for both smtp and pop3?

      Re: smtp outlook problems

i spoke to sky today and they said i can only use the sky email and i cant use my own? is this true. if i knew that to be the case i would never have signed up to it as i rely on it for business.

im using outgoing 465 incoming 995 with SSL ticked.

on the outgoing server tab i have ticked 'my outgoing server requires authentication'

      outgoing server is smtp.tools.sky.com

      i am using outlook 2010

This is true, non-Sky email addresses can't be used without showing your @sky.com address in the 'From' field. Sky BB is a consumer service and business use is prohibited

      Re: smtp outlook problems

Two points - first of all Sky's service is specifically for Social and Domestic use and their T&C's forbid Business use. Secondly I use a third party email supplier to support my emails for me@mydomain.co.uk without any problem. I then use an email client to access incoming/outgoing emails relating to all of my email accounts - Outlook 2010 should be perfect for this.

      Re: smtp outlook problems

as said above a paid for mail service is the way to go.

I use 1and1.co.uk for mine and they charge something like 9 for the year with 5 mailboxes on one domain.

You might want to check out the company who registered your domain first to see if they do mail packages as some companies will charge to have your domain moved over to their systems.

Sorry but I have a number of email addresses for different purposes.

The sky ones work just fine, but because I can sign on somewhere else or use a mobile dongle, I have set it to "my server requires authentication".

This I have also done with Yahoo. A Tesco.net email address required me to use the Sky server & login details.

Vodafone's 360 works through IMAP and no such requirement has been needed.

It is worth looking at other ports. I use ports 587 & 995 for the Yahoo as 465 wouldn't work with Sky.

Whilst Sky's T&Cs might dictate that people should not be using their BB connection for business usage, I suspect that they would find it difficult to enforce when you take into account how many people work from home now.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB

      Not entirely true.

By registering your 3rd party address you can get the SKY smtp server to allow the 3rd party address to pass through in the 'from' field, but in this case it willl add a 'sender:' field with the sky email address.

Some email clients will ignore this field, but Outlook will display the email as "From 'sky address' on behalf of '3rd party addess'.

Replies will go to the '3rd party address:'.

      Re: smtp outlook problems

I have used Mailwash for a good number of years and never encountered any major issues until tonight - when I kept getting an error message. In one of my less intelligent moments I thought of uninstalling and re stalling the program - big mistake I now cant use the program because I get a message Bad User name or password. No matter what I use it is wrong - can you help me out of my fix by either giving me a fresh download so that I could start as if I was a new customer or help me find a way out of the maze I have set myself.

Try using the Unlock, go here and fill in your details.
      https://www.google.com/a/sky.com/UnlockCaptcha

I don't think you need @sky.com in the username.
