    Sky -email and outlook problem

      Sky -email and outlook problem

      Been using outlook for as long as i care to remember with no problems but today have had this meesage that is stopping all e-mail from downloading from sky. No settings have changed and all worked as expected yesterday, any help much appreciated.

      Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR not supported p72pf18250477wej.20', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

      Check that you don't have Secure Password Authentication (SPA) set.

      What version of Outlook is it?

      Windows mail 6.0.6000.16386 (vistartm.061101-2205). When SPA is unchecked I am asked to provide user name and password and when I enter these nothing happens, currentl running IE9 beta (downloaded on 24/11/10) and have had no problems until today.

      Are you using the "Log on using clear text authentification"?

      Cannot find where to check this is set or not. Checked account properties, set up new account etc but this does not appear.

      Unfortunately I don't have Windows mail running here so I checked my setings in Live mail.
      It maybe that Windows mail doesn't have that setting. The errors you have are authentification errors so the problem must be somewhere in those settings.

      Thanks for the help moleman. Not sure where the problem came from all was good yesterday, have tried new account settings etc but no joy. Will keep searching and hoping.....

      Problem solved by contacting sky and having my username and password synced against the the google mail system. why it should just stop working who knows..

      It's probably stopped working after the latest group of Microsoft patches have been installed. I couldn't login to the email servers either after my patches were installed as 'Require logon using secure password authentication (SPA) had ticked itself.

      Also following these latest patches Outlook 2007 is miles slower than it was before too. So we can expect another patch soon to fix this patch

      Just had the same problem
      - uninstalled
      Update for Microsoft Outlook 2007 (KB2412171)

      POP3 now functioning,
