HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Has anyone set up their sky email address on an HTC Hero?
I have set my email up using the pop3 settings etc for my sky account and can receive email okay but can't send emails via my sky account from my HTC.
Any ideas what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Mears

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Have you tried using the SkyUser SMTP server?
Have you gone to outgoing server settings and untick the 'login required' box

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Hi,
I unticked the login required and saved and then got an email address not authenticated alert.
Re tick the box and the address is now authenticated but still unable to send emails using my sky email address.
SkyUser smtp server? - Would prefer to try and solve the issue using skys on server first.
Thanks for the feedback

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Try putting smtp.googlemail.com into the outgoing server instead of smtp.tools.sky.com

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Sorry but why google mail?
Set up as described with the smtp.googlemail.com with the same port and ssl setting and it worked!
I can now send via my sky email address using my HTC. I assume that sky uses the google mail set up?
Many thanks for the fix and indeed all other suggestions.

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
Sky mail uses Google mail for delivering its service. Using the googlemail address bypasses the Sky mail server and can resolve some problems.

Re: HTC hero phone - Sky email set up
How to configure your HTC HD2 to receive your Sky emails through IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
Log into your sky account on your PC / Laptop and goto 'Mail Settings' and then 'Forwarding and POP / IMAP'. Enable IMAP but don't forget - you must select 'Save Changes' on the 'Mail Settings' page or Sky Email won't work with your email program.
When you've done that, you can configure your HTC HD2 email program:
1.Tap Mail.
2. Tap Envelope.
3. Tap Menu.
4. Add Account.
5. Tap Other - (Note: Don't tap 'Sky Email,' if you do, you'll set up POP rather than IMAP.
6. Enter your email address, fred.bloggs@sky.com
7. Enter your password, ******
8. Tap Manual Setup
9. Enter your name, eg.Fred Bloggs
10. Enter Account display name, eg. Sky.com
11. Tap Next.
12. Add Incoming Mail Server, imap.tools.sky.com
13. Tab down to IMAP4 on Account Type
14. Username is your full Sky Email address, eg. 'fred.bloggs@sky.com'
15. Enter password & select save
16. Tap Next
17. Enter Outgoing SMTP as:- smtp.tools.sky.com
18. Tick Outgoing Server requires Authentication
19. Tick same user & password for sending
20. Tap next & set to receive automatically & period.
Fingers crossed I've not missed anything off Manni
