Sky e-mail (autosave) and slowdown problem
Hello
I have been having a problem from time to time with my e-mails.
As I operate the keyboard, the words and letters don't always appear instantly on the screen - sometimes taking several seconds delay to catch up. Often they do not appear at all leaving bits missing from my mail. This is a complete nuisance and corrections take as long to sort the whole thing out because of the same problem.
Funnily it doesn't happen on websites like this and I can write away perfectly on a thread but not on my e-mails. I have raised this elsewhere on this website and it has been suggested that this is a known problem which has been raised here before. Unfortunately I can't find anything.
I have a belief that the problem is linked to an "autosave" situation on my sky e-mails. vis. There are 3 boxes at the foot of my message - Send,Save Now and Discard, Next to the Discard button is the Message Draft autosaved at 12:57 (0 minutes ago) (or whatever time I am writing. That message updates every minute (on the minute) automatically.
I have raised this with the Sky Help Centre and got the following reply
Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.
I can confirm that Sky.com does not use a feature that automatically saves the email you are typing, the only way this can be done is by clicking onto Save.
Please check your browser settings, if you have Internet Explorer then you can follow the steps below:
Open a new browser window
Click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
Then delete cookies, files and clear history
Click on the Security tab and click on the internet and make sure the security level is set to medium
Click on the Privacy tab and ensure that this is set to medium.
Click on the Connections tab and ensure that there are no dial up networks in the box
Then select Never Dial A Connection
Click on LAN Settings, ensure that no boxes are selected. Click OK
Finally, click on the advanced tab and click on Reset
Click Apply then Ok
Unfortunately, having done all the above the situation remains the same with my sky e-mails. I have replied accordingly but can someone who uses sky-mail please tell me if theirs does the same? By the way - the highlighting above is mine. I can't find out how to stop the autosave happening and I'm getting angry. The annoying thing is the delay/missed bits doesn't happen all the time, and sometimes if I shut down and reboot it cures itself.
I'd appreciate a reply from anyone else who has this problem, or even confirmation of the existence of "autosave" which the help people say doesn't exist.
Sorry this is such a long tale.

Re: Sky e-mail (autosave) and slowdown problem
Well here's an amended response from Sky Help - now they concede that there is indeed an autosave feature. Doesn't help me really because there's no suggestion as to the cause. It's working fine now - it's an occasional but really annoying problem.
Quote, "Thank you for contacting the Sky Help Centre regarding the Sky Email service.
I can confirm that the Sky Email service does in fact use an auto-save feature, this is a feature which is an always-on service and as such it cannot be disabled. If it is in fact interrupting the creation of emails, I would suggest accessing the basic HTML version of the inbox. This will allow you to create emails as before (although with limited fonts etc) and the auto-disable feature will not be active. This can be accessed from the loading page, click "Load Basic HTML" and this will open up your inbox in a simplified form.
This is a temporary solution. The auto-save feature should not be interrupting the normal functions of the email service. Are you having any other issues - do emails take long to open? Can you add attachments ok? If this is the case, there may be an issue in the background causing the fault.
I hope this helps with your enquiry.
Kind regards" Unquote
Were there are no other issues so I am no further forward.

Re: Sky e-mail (autosave) and slowdown problem
As a workaround, have you tried using an off-line e-mail tool such as Thunderbird?
