cannot access email via pop3 account
Hi all,
I have a problem accessing my account via windows mail in vista. It used to work but now I continualy get the username and password box come up.
I know that the name and password are correct as I can use them online.
I spent over an hour with sky support going throught the settings at least 4 or 5 times. In the end the guy just said - must be a problem with microsoft, contact them!!
I know it is not a software problem as I have connected another computer to the line and tried all of the settings I have been given (same as the ones that appear in the stickies on this forum) and it dosent work on that system either.
The main computer is a vista machine and the other one I tried was XP - so I have tried windows mail, and outlook express - in addition I have tried Thunderbird.
As I said this used to work.
Any suggestions......... please.......
Kind regards
John

http://www.sky.com/unlock
give that a try, then remove the account from Windows Mail and do it again from scratch and see what happens...-------------------------------------------

Re: cannot access email via pop3 account
before I try this can I ask if this will work if I am using remote access?
I ask as I am trying to resolve this for the actual user from my home (the user is a blind lady who is having the problems). The remote access software I am using is team viewer.
TIA
John

Re: cannot access email via pop3 account
OK - just tried this and the unlock page keeps saying that the username and password do not match.
I know I am using the correct password as it works on the webmail access.
I have tried the username both with and without the @sky.com suffix (I am assuming it only wants the first bit as if I type in the full name it tells me that @ is not allowed)
Any more suggestions?
BTW I tried this both from my machine and from hers (using remote access) just in case it had to be accessed for the users line.

Re: cannot access email via pop3 account
You need to do a password reset via sky.com, sign in. Click on the forgotten my password link, give the user name. When the screen comes up saying you have been emailed the password click on "Have no access to email, reset here" and follow the prompts.

Re: cannot access email via pop3 account
Hi Paul I have just tried that (had to wait to find out the users mothers maiden name). I changed the password to something different.
I still get the message on www.sky.com/unlock that the usere name and password dont match.
So I thought I will try the new password in windows mail (incidentaly I made sure it wasnt running when I ran the unlock page). I completly deleted the old account. I used the settings in the sticky on this forum using the new password.
I am still getting the Username and Password input box every time I try to login!!
I have just tried the web site and the new password works for webmail......
Any other suggestions (all polite of course ;-) )
Kind regards
John

Re: cannot access email via pop3 account
Sorry to bump this up. But I really do need a solution to this and emails to the sky support centre just get a response saying they will get back to me........
The worst part of this is that I am trying to sort this for a friend who is blind and as such NEEDS to use pop3 as her screen reader doesent handle webmail very well.
If I cant sort this out she cant use her email at all.
