Setting up an email account with 123-reg

I have moved my website to www.elvisinwales.com which I purchased through 123-reg.co.uk.

I have also purchased an email address and am having difficulty in setting it up.

Everything appears to be set-up on the 123-reg website as per their instructions.

I have entered all details on Microsoft Outlook 2003 as follows:

      Incoming mail server (POP3): pophost.123.reg.co.uk

      Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.tools.sky.com

      Username: supplied by 123-reg

      Password: supplied by 123-reg

When trying to send an email via Miscosoft Outlook 2003 using my new email address I receive the following error message:

Task 'Elvis in Wales (Master) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. q9sm3519394gve.15'

I can find no reference to this error on the 123-reg help system and don't know what I need to do to rectify it.

On speaking to Sky they haven't got a foggiest what I am talking about.

well, you don't want to be using the Sky SMTP to send from another address - you need the SMTP server details off of 123-reg...

123-reg don't have a SMTP server. They say to use your existing ISP's one.

Re: Setting up an email account with 123-reg

go into the email account properties in Outlook...
click on 'More settings' and click on the 'servers' tab...
under outgoing mail server, you need to put in your sky details - e.g. username@sky.com as username, and your password in the password field...

however, when you send an email it'll show as username@domain.co.uk on behalf of username@sky.com...

you need 3rd party smtp access to get around this - might need to sign up for the SkyUser SMTP service...

That doesn't sound like a very good 3rd party supplier, I use 1and1.co.uk for my mail and they have pop, smtp and IMAP all on multiple ports as well.

Then again I pay 80pence a month for my mail so unless 123reg do it a whole lot cheaper I geuss they are having a laugh.

I'm paying about the same. I also purchased a website address from them too which works fine.

Re: Setting up an email account with 123-reg

Will the SkyUser SMTP service solve the problem of the sky email address being present when the recipient receives emails (From: Name <user@sky.com>), as 3 of us in the house use very our old Tiscali accounts and you can only send emails via there SMTP if you have an IP on there network.

When we send a person emails they donít have the sense to just hit reply thy copy the sky email address and this means that our emails go to the main sky account, very frustrating.
