Sending email using smtp.tools.sky.com
I'm trying to send email from Apple Mail using smtp.tools.sky.com and have everything set up. It works fine except that because I have to use my ...@sky.com address as part of the authentication, any email that it sends is received from the ...@sky.com address.
On my pre-Sky internet connection (Tesco) no authentication was required on that outgoing mail server so the sent email appeared sent from whatever email address I put into the account setup in Apple Mail. This was an email address using a private domain name and worked fine because mail was received as if sent from that address.
Does anyone know if it is possible to send email using smtp.tools.sky.com without it appearing that the sender is ...@sky.com?

Re: Sending email using smtp.tools.sky.com
It isn't possible I'm afraid because this is the way Google/Gmail who run Sky's email system works. The only way you can get around this issue is to use a different SMTP server to send your mail. If you need a free one SkyUser operates one details of which can be found here:

Re: Sending email using smtp.tools.sky.com
I think what you is talking about is like a display name,
You know how outlook when setting it ups asks for user name & password as well as a display name,
See : Adding Email Accounts in Apple Mail
• Email Address - The email address is split in two by an "@" character: on its left comes the "user name", and on its right the "domain".
• Full Name - This is how Apple Mail will display your name in emails you send out. Either a simple "Joe", or a more complete "Dr. Tle Noshell"
Fings crossed that helps you out.

Re: Sending email using smtp.tools.sky.com
Nope its not possible, it will still show "sending on behalf of x@sky.com" in the headers etc on the email as that is how the gmail system works. You need your own domain hosting or a Skyuser smtp account.

Re: Sending email using smtp.tools.sky.com
agreed, you need to buy a mail package with your domain provider or use the Sky User SMTP (which you need to apply for)
The Sky USer one is free and most paid for mail packages cost less than £1 per month
Almost all mail services are going the authenticated route as to try and stop the spread of SPAM mail on their networks, O2 block port 25 on their network if it isn't going through their authenticated servers.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
