Downloading emails on a PDA - how do I keep them on the server for Outlook too?

I use an HTC Tytn II mobile / phone and have set it up to access my Sky.com email accounts.

In the past I was able to download emails on to my mobile when out and about read / delete them as necessary knowing that when I was next at home I could download them safely onto my Laptop as well.

However, although I am not aware that I have changed any of the settings I can no longer download emails to both mobile & laptop. If I download them to my mobile they no longer download to my laptop?

I checked the 'mail settings' on the sky accounts online and have ensured under the "forwarding pop/imap" tab that under "pop download" that the setting is set to "When messages are accessed with POP - keep sky's mail's copy in the inbox" as on one of the accounts it was set to "archive".

However, the problem still persists. How can I ensure I can download to both mobile & laptop independently?

whilst it keeps a copy in the sky mail box, it still marks it as downloaded and is teh reason why it won't download it again.

what email client is on the PDA?

Change the username on the moble by adding recent: in front of of it (so it becomes recent:username@sky.com) and that should ensure they will still be available to download by the laptop.

      Why not use IMAP?

It leaves everything on the server unless you delete it.

Thanks - any ideas as to why this has recently changed? Have Sky done something different? Has my PDA done something different?

Not sure what email client I'm using but as I haven't loaded anything so assume it's the default in Windows Mobile 6.1...

Thanks - is the word 'recent' significant or can you amend the username to anything different?

Re: Downloading emails on a PDA - how do I keep them on the server for Outlook too?

If you have it set to 'Keep a copy in the Skymail Inbox' you should be able to download them with Outlook. I don't think they should be marked as 'read' unless you open them in the Web interface. If you mark them 'archive' they will only be accessible from the Web. Remember it can take some time for the changes to settings to take effect.

IMAP is a better system, if you can use it.

Take a look at this gmail help page. As sky mail is a rebranded googlemail I'm assuming it works in the same way.

Thanks moleman quick test seems to suggest this does the trick - cheers!

I'm still curious as to what's changed as never had this problem a few weeks ago??

The help page implies that this (recent) is set up automatically for blackberries - do you think the same would have been for WM6.1 phones? and that when restoring previous settings I may have accidentally removed this setting?

I assume you can add recent to both pda and laptop or just pda if desired?
