      Please help: Setting up SMTP

Hello. I have a question about MS Outlook.

I have set up my personal university (city) account in outlook in with an IMAP mail server and I download the emails fine.

However, when setting up the SMTP server for outgoing mails using smtp.tools.sky.com, all outgoing emails appear to be coming from dr***@sky.com, which is my sky email address.

How can I use SMPT so that emails appear to be going out from my city account instead, NOT the sky address?

      Thanks
      Chris

      Hi

You would need to use your own SMTP service, possibly that come with your domain hosting. If you don't have that, we offer one that is free for Sky Broadband customers.

The university gave me an SMTP, however that can only be used only if connected to its network; in other words it wont work at home.
Ok thanks for the tips guys, I'll give that a go.
      Cheers
      Chris

Re: Please help: Setting up SMTP

      NewsreaderR,

Just a quick question, to save starting a new thread...

I have a domain from 123-reg.co.uk and it is saying my ISP will provide my SMTP outgoing server, I have tried to set it up so I can send from Shaun@mydomain.co.uk etc and it keeps asking me to re enter the password for my sky account?

Am I experiencing the same problem as the above gent?

Cheers in advance, sterling job you guys are doing here.

did your host give you the server details? if so, you need to configure them as your outgoing mail server and also configure it to NOT use the same as your incoming mail server...

No, 123-reg have just given me a POP server details and looking through their help files it states that the SMTP is from my Service Provider (Which is Sky)

I have set it up in Thunderbird email and it looks for it, and then asks for the password for my Sky SMTP details - I put in my sky password and it comes back with an error:

      'Sending of message failed.
The message could not be send because connecting to SMTP server smtp.tools.sky.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP serve is correct and try again or else contact your network administrator.

Re: Please help: Setting up SMTP

ahhh, prob best you sign up for the SkyUser SMTP server then, as even if you get it working it'll show 'on behalf of XXX@sky.com' in the reply field (a nice 'feature' of using the Google system) and the email will come to the Sky email not your domain...
