Outgoing mail server (SMTP) for non @sky.com addresses

I have my own domain name (and use email addresses from this), with my old ISP I put their Outgoing mail (SMTP) into my Outlook Express settings (now Windows Live Mail).

I tried changing this to the one on the Sky website but it won't work.

The Sky site said to use
      smtp.tools.sky.com

Is there another setting I can use instead.

You need to use smtp.tools.sky.com and set the smtp server to use SSL with the relevant port number and your full sky email address and login password for authentication.

Sorry I mean the email addresses with my domain name rather than my @sky.com address.

Try putting your own domain's server in or apply for the Free Skyuser one.

Re: Outgoing mail server (SMTP) for non @sky.com addresses

Seems this question is asked and not answered. I am from Canada and our internet providers are very skilled at answering such questions. Here after three months and talking to customer service of SKY 4 times, I gave up - they never answered the question!!! So useless.

The question remains, what do I put in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) for a non-sky address to use my own domain and email?

If you have your own domain then you might have your own smtp, if so then you can use that. If you can't then you can apply for the free one that is run by the guys from this very website, details of which can be found here:

Re: Outgoing mail server (SMTP) for non @sky.com addresses

i had the same problem only just got it sorted - you should be able to unlock your email using the google captcha thing as mentioned above and if you can't you need to phone tech support to unlock it for you, because if your email is in fact locked then no amount of tampering with settings will work apparently.
Now I phoned them twice last week and they said it would take a few days each time, then a lady this morning just did it for me there and then - go figure!

Anyway following that the key for me was the 'Outgoing Servers' tab on the email settings, after you've put all the other settings in as above (the important one being on the advanced tab - outgoing server uses SSL and port 465) and on the main settings page your email log in and password is for your other non-sky email eg: username@btinternet.com and password- go to the 'Outgoing Servers' tab, make sure to click 'My outgoing server requires authentication' click 'log on using' and enter your user.name@sky.com and your sky password.

      Worked for me. Good luck!

Re: Outgoing mail server (SMTP) for non @sky.com addresses

windows mail asks for your email address on the main settings page but not your password, it only asks for your password on the outgoing servers tab(once in whole of the settings). surely if you put in your sky email address and password windows mail cant retrieve mail from a non-sky email address without the password?

the only reason i ask this is because i would be interested to know how to set a non-sky email address up using skys server info, port numbers etc

Re: Outgoing mail server (SMTP) for non @sky.com addresses

If you use your non-Sky email address with the Sky SMTP then it's display as 'address@youdomain.com on behelf of address@sky.com' - you have to use your domains SMTP server if you have access to it. If not, you can apply to have access to the SkyUser SMTP server
