      Password problem (outlook express)

      Hi,

I had to do a recovery on my laptop & have followed the set up tutorial for outlook express but when i try to send or receive the password box keeps popping up & i can't get any further.

      I then get these messages.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'smtp.tools.sky.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Any idea how i can resolve this ?

      Many thanks,
      Steve

If this is the password you use to log into sky.com and the user name that OE is giving is the full email address you can try closing OE and then navigate to
      www.sky.com/unlock
and follow the instructions to unlock the account.

      Re: Password problem (outlook express)

I had a similar problem setting up Outlook Express for a neighbour.

If the unlocking as suggested by Paulsky does not work, there is one more hoop to jump through. In OE tools/accounts, select "mail" and open "properties". Open the Servers tab and at the bottom under "Outgoing mail server" tick "My server requires authentication", then open "settings" and tick " Use the same settings as my incoming mail server".

That worked for me so I think that may help (hopefully!!).

Check you have the ports set correctly as in this Sky help page.

      Sky.com - Sky Help Centre>Sky Online

If all else fails try using Thunderbird.

Have you enabled POP on the sky.com email and tools site? It won't work till you log in to sky.com, click on email and tools, go into your inbox area and enable POP in the mail settings section.

Are you remembering to use your full email address in the account name section, ie xxxx@sky.com. This is a common mistake.

      Re: Password problem (outlook express)

Have you tried a password reset on sky.com? There are multiple servers in use for the sky account and sometimes a password reset pulls them all back to where they should be. Also have you enabled POP access in settings and completed your MySky profile? Sometimes that trips things over too.
