Problems sending emails from Outlook Express

      Goodmorning everyone
I am aware that there have been other users with problems sending emails and have read through the threads but can't find one that seems to relate directly to my issue. 24 hours ago my email programme on my desktop PC suddenly stopped sending emails, receiving messages is fine but I get prompts for password repeatedly on sending. I can send from webmail so I assume there is no problem with my account, and I can also send from my laptop using Outlook Express. I stress that I have made no changes and that my settings have been established and working fine since I installed SKY nearly 2 years ago!

      Any ideas?

chances are you're still using the old server details...if you've made no changes since you had it i'm surprised you're only just having issues as the new system has been live since the beginning of the year...

this is what you need to do (if not already)...

Enabling POP on your Sky Email account:

      1. Log into your Sky Email account.
      2. Click Settings at the top of any Sky Email page.
      3. Click Forwarding and POP in the orange Mail Settings box.
      4. Select Enable POP For All Mail or Enable POP For Mail That Arrives From Now On.
      5. Choose the action you'd like your Sky Email messages to take after they are accessed with POP.
      6. Click Save Changes.

      Configure your mail client:

      1. Open Outlook Express.
      2. Click the Tools menu, and select Email Accounts....
      3. Click Add and then click Mail....
      4. Enter your name in the Display name: field and click Next.
      5. Enter your full Sky Email address (username@sky.com) in the Email address: field and click Next.
      6. Enter pop.tools.sky.com in the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: field.
      7. Enter smtp.tools.sky.com in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field.
      8. Click Next.
      9. Enter your Sky Email username (including '@sky.com') in the Account name: field.
      10. Enter your Sky Email password in the Password: field and click Next.
      11. Click Finish.
      12. Highlight pop.tools.sky.com under Account and click Properties.
      13. Click the Advanced tab.
      14. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), tick the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
      15. Enter 465 in the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field.
      16. Under Incoming mail (POP3), tick the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

This port should change to 995 for POP3.

      17. Click the Servers tab and tick the box next to My server requires authentication.
      18. Click OK.

Thanks, I've done all that when the changes took place...what I meant was that I've never had any problems of this nature since I have been using Sky.

You may need to go to www.sky.com/unlock and enter your user name and password for the sky login. Make sure outlook is closed first.

Thanks Jessie-Lou, will have a look but surely it would not be working on my laptop if this was the problem?

yes, with the '@sky.com' at the end of the username...

saying that, if it works via the web then you've got no issues, just a minor inconvinience...

Re: Problems sending emails from Outlook Express

Hi again, it tells me the @ character is not allowed..but wont work wthout it either?? But I agree that if the webmail and laptop are working this is unlikely to be the problem!
