      Setting up Outlook 2000

      Hi all

I hope this is the correct place to ask this question.

I want to set up so that I send and receive my emails with Outlook 2000, I have got as far as I can but I am stumped with this last bit.

Which method do you want to use to connect to the Internet?

1 Connect using my phone line
2 Connect using my local area network (LAN)
3 I will establish my Internet connection manually

If I click on the radio button for Connect using my phone line it goes to

1 Create a new dial up connection
2 Use an existing dial up connection

If I clock on 1 Create a new dial up connection then the next screen is for telephone numbers

If I click on 2 it highlights the Speedtouch Connection which is the modem of my old ISP.

If I click on Connect using my local area network the next screen says Congrats you have successfully etc

But I don't know if this is correct.

      I have assumed I don't want

I will establish my Internet Connection manually.

Unfortunately Outlook 2000 is different to Outlook 2003 and OE so screen shots have not been completely applicable.

      Help is always appreciated.

      Setting up Outlook 2000

      Hi

I have been trying to set up Outlook 2000 to receive my emails itís taken awhile but I think I might be getting somewhere.

I have now managed to send a test email, however there was an error

Unable to logon to the server Distribution Password Authentication. Server Response: 'ERR on supported 140pf809284ugc.0'. (Account: 'pop.skt.com', POP3 Server: 'pop.tools,sky.com', Error number: 0x800ccc18)

The test email did transmit as I can see it my input on Sky. Can anyone tell me where I have gone wrong in the setup?

      Help is always appreciated.

Did you by any chance tick "Secure Password Authentication"? If so untick it.

It's only in the account name so shouldn't stop it working.

      Thanks for your reply.

I did and I have now unticked.

When I click send/receive I now get another window that says

Please enter your username and password for the following server.

Details are already filled in :-

      pop.tools.sky.com

my user name with @sky.com added

      and my password.

      Remember password is unchecked.

I am unable to make the screen go away by clicking OK so end up canceling.

Is the Server name incorrect please, or can anyone tell me what I might now be doing wrong.

Your help is invaluable to me, so please stick around.

      Re: Setting up Outlook 2000

in your previous email there was a comma in the server name, if you have used pop.tools.sky.com and smtp.tools.sky.com then both servers are correct. Is outlook fully up to date as it needs a certain service pack for older version of Outlook to work properly.
Also have you logged into that account name on sky.com, clicked email and tools, logged into the inbox, click on mail settings, select pop and forwarding and then enable POP for the account and apply?

Hi and thank you for your reply

skt and comma in server name were typo's in my post typing sorry.

Outlook is an old version, I use it because it came with an iPAC and has to be used with that.

Big, big error on my part, I had not enabled POP on sky.com mega I have now and guess what?

I think I've got it, by gad I think I've got it

Have just received my test email and the Sky welcome email.

My only problem seems to be that Outlook is no longer checking for new emails every 5 mins as it is setup, any ideas on that? I have checked and it is still set to that.

Thank you for your help, this old gal would have been hairless without it.
