      all sky.com email addresses are bouncing back to me?

      Hi I run a mailing list with over 4000 members and over 100 of these have sky.com email addresses. For the last couple of weeks all emails that I send out to the group are being bounced back from all the sky.com email addresses with the message

      CNAME lookup failed temporarily. (#4.4.3)
      I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

      I have no idea why this should be I hope this is the right place to ask but if not please move the thread and let me know where to go.

      Any advice appreciated

      The members of my site pay to be members and the emails I send are emails they want to receive, I am not using Sky so there is no reason why I should be suspended? The problem I am having is with the members who have sky.com email addresses. I am told it is a sky problem but as I don't know anything about this CNAME thing I am asking for advice?

      Thanks for that I had a look but either I am not understanding it or it is assuming that I am a sky.com email user rather than someone having problems sending to sky.com email addresses.

      I didn't 'really' understand it either, I just googled the error message you were getting, but the way it seemed to me was that there are sometimes problems sending and that if you leave the messages in the queue they will eventually get sent, must admit that has happened to me before now.

      Maybe someone with more knowledge of email transmissions will come along and help out more.

      That would be useful, the only information my webmaster can give me is: -

      This is a problems with Sky's DNS server.

      the CNAME is one of the records in the domain settings, i.e. the nameservers will ne ns1.sky.com and a cname would point a nameserver called sky34 to ns1.sky.com

      Sky would use this because they probably use lots of different servers to handle all the free email and customer accounts.

      It's skys problem they should be sorting it out.

      Re: all sky.com email addresses are bouncing back to me?

      The fault is not a Sky problem. If everyone else is able to email to Sky.com accounts then it is very unlikely to be a Sky problem with the CNAME. There have been no reports of people not being able to send mail to sky.com accounts on this forum (yet).

      Mail for Sky is handled by Google these days, so the MX records will be owned by Google.
      • "A" (Address) records if the host-name is actually a machine;
      • CNAME (Canonical NAME) if the host-name is merely an alias;
      • MX (Mail eXchange) records if the host is not capable of receiving E-Mail directly, or to give an alternative destination for mail if the host is temporarily unreachable;
      • TXT (TeXT) records to give additional information on the host

      Alternatively, you may get the message "Host not found."

      You do not say what Mail system you are runnning - but maybe this thread will help you resolve the issue which is almost certainly within your mailserver configuration. It discusses QMail but the reasoning in there is sound.
