This is the response from the server support guys.

The issue is definitely at Sky's end. We've had quite a lot of complaints over
the last few days of this same issue from different people. Basically it
appears that, as the error message says, their DNS servers aren't responding
correctly to lookups for MX records. When querying the name servers manually
the results you get back are very slow and inconsistent and so i presume that
this is probably a load issue.

The problem seemed to be fixed yesterday afternoon when i was looking at this
for another customer but from looking again now it appears to have returned.

If you require any additional information or we can be of any further
assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

This is very strange. The lookup responds instantly using Network Tools

It is not a timing issue though. Looking deeper into this there does seem to be some issue with CNAME. Using this test and looking specifically for CNAME records the response is quick enough but seems to be without any Answer Records ... I'm pushing my DNS knowledge a bit, but the same 0 Answer Records occurs with other .com domains (i.e. play.com etc...).

The thing to do now would be to take this to Sky's call centre, give the information and ask for escalation to the higher levels of support, this is completely beyond Tier 1. You now need an opinion from Sky.

I appreciate your help but do you know how as a non sky.com email user I can contact their support without hanging on the phone to speak to someone who doesn't really understand what I am talking about.

It doesn't help that I am in Tenerife whilst all this is going on!
