External IMAP Blocked ?
Hi there
I'm new to Sky BB, only activated last week.
I collect my e-mail from an external mailserver using IMAP and send via the same server using SMTP. This worked fine until this morning but I am now unable to connect using IMAP, SMTP sending still works fine though. Outlook comes up with 'Unable to connect to the server' telnetting directly to the IMAP server gets the same result. The remote server is working fine as using my 3mobile BB on the laptop is fine. I've also tried establishing a VPN connection to a client site and collected via that connection and that is also fine.
It appears that port 143 is being deliberately blocked by Sky. I have tried Tech Support but they know less about the internet and computers than my 8 year old niece and are absolutely adamant that no-one would ever need anything but the totally crap Sky e-mail system.
Can anyone else confirm port 143 blocking before I cancel

Re: External IMAP Blocked ?
Sky DO NOT block any ports, so there's nothing obvious thats jumps out...

Re: External IMAP Blocked ?
Can you collect the mail using a POP server?
Also have you done a traceroute to the IMAP server? It could be that there is a problem on the way to that server or the server itself is down.
The fact that SMTP works suggests that the IMAP server is down but the SMTP one is up so you can send mail but not recieve or the route from them is using different hops.Last edited by Undecided Adrian; 20-02-08 at 04:17 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: External IMAP Blocked ?
I have just remembered a few weeks back somebody else was having a similar problem, they hadn't set authentication on for outgoing mail, might be worth seeing if that solves it.
