I have a free-online (part of plusnet) dial up account but I have not dialed in for at least 5 years and it is still active, however I do access the email regularly.

They say you only have to access the website and you stay active, but I try (not sure why though), to visit once a month to keep it active - usually to see how disgruntled customers still are with the terrible service they still offer!!

As I said earlier, unless you use your dialup account, you can't use it for sending, only receiving. If you go through your contacts and transfer them to another account, you can forget about it. I am not sure if they will allow you to change the address for referral notifications, might be worth checking.
