RIP Sky
They have finally driven me out the door. This latest SMTP change is it for me. I've been a full subscriber of their top TV package, telephone and broadband for a long time now, but I've had enough.
Murdoch, I hope you rot.

Re: RIP Sky
To be fair to Sky, I do think they are trying to improve the service they offer and a move to Google mail is a move in the right direction, even though it has been a pain in the neck for me.
New users wont be affected as they never had any of the old settings. I have finally sorted out my problem with sending mail via the new SMTP by completely setting a new account up from scratch and using port 25 for the outgoing port (thought it was meant to be 465).
Still all working now.

Re: RIP Sky
You are able to send email using your private domain account, through the new smtp.tools.sky.com server, without the 'from' address on the email appearing as xxx@sky.com?
I've never allowed myself to fall victim to skys "free email" that comes with the account. Never used it.
They aren't trying to improve anything. They are trying to force people to use their crap.

Re: RIP Sky
Do you not have a full hosting package for the domain? Mine gives me smtp/ pop email access along with the actual hosting space.

Re: RIP Sky
Personally never bother with ISP based mail (even if it is google).
Just get yourself a normal googlemail account and the rest is history. Pop3 pickup etc , as you would expect.
Nothing worse than loosing email addys when changing ISP's

Re: RIP Sky
I agree the change to Google mail servers is a pain, in particular the way they restrict access to the smtp server, however it is possible to send mail via smtp.tools.sky.com and still have your own domain show in the from field.
The annoying thing is you have to register then authenticate each and every email address you want to use.
