Can't send email via new sky server
hi there
I have been using Sky broadband for about a year and have had no problem sending and receiving email via my long-standing email address which is an old 'ukgateway.net' address. Gateway was taken over by Tiscali and I can also log in to Webmail via the Tiscali website OK.
2 days ago I stopped being able to send email. i use an Apple Mac and am using the 'mail' program. i didn't change the settings or touch anything.
I can still receive email. I receive through the original POP3 gateway server and have been sending via the smtp.sky.com server.
I have called Sky and after 35 minutes on the phone a supervisor told me the smtp.sky.com server has been switched off and that the new server does not allow mail from non-sky email addresses....!!!!!!
i can't believe they can do this and am sure I'm not alone in feeling totally let down...no warning, no advice and now 'they only offer passive support' (whatever that means) and can't help me any further.
Does anyone have a fix on how I can get my outward mail working again?
i have tried putting smtp.ukgateway.net in as the outgoing mail server but that didn't work either!

its been known a long time that the servers were going down - otherwise Sky wouldn't have moved to Google!!
and you can send via the other address - but it'll show 'on behalf of xxx@sky.com' after the address...
you get what you pay for in the end but it's nothing Sky support so no point calling them - best bet is either setup another email address for sky OR buy a mailbox to go with your domain, not that expensive tbh...-------------------------------------------

Thank you for your input. I have read other people's threads here that seem to be having the same problem. I have set up the @sky.com address in my email program ('mail' on apple mac) and can now receive both mail from my original email address and the @sky.com. However, I still can't make the program send any email from either...when I create an email and try to send it automatically tries to send from my gateway account and is then rejected.......
Going slowly mad trying to resolve this so any advice on where I'm going wrong much appreciated.

you have to use the Sky smtp server to send...
