      Another windows mail not working

      Hi

      My windows mail (vista) used to work fine before sky decided to move me over to the new servers. I have changed everything to the letter. I have tried and tried again. I have followed the setup to the letter checked and checked again, still nothing. I have done everything on my mail account on sky.com. I keep getting a prompt for my username and password everytime I open my windows mail, when I cancel that I get the following message

      Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

      Any ideas

      This may help. When I did my Windows Mail I forgot to enable POP, and got an error to say so. Did that and then windows mail asked for username and password. Put in ******@sky.com and the password and it worked!!.

      I have followed the setup to the letter including activating pop on the sky website when they first transfered me over back August I have tried deleting my account in Windows mail and setting it up again but still no joy.

      I just don't understand why it is not working, it was fine before they switched me over.

      does anybody have any other ideas

      Nik, check your settings with mine here
      and check your POP is enabled properly here

      Please note also that we have been told the test email does not work. It sits on the portal but does not download to windows mail. The best way to test is to send email to a friend and have them reply

      I have checked my specs to your and the only difference is you have is in the server box it say log on using clear text authentication. I don't have that option I don't know if you are using vista mail. everything else is exactly the same including the second part where you enable pop on the sky site.

      Vista Windows Mail doesn't have those options so I wouldn't worry about them...

      The settings are actually from windows live mail which is just an upgrade to windows mail, the clear text authentication must have come with the upgrade. It's basically the same program with a few unnecessary enhancements...IMHO

      Just to add here, when I first set up my mail back in November it took about 3-4 days to start working properly, no idea why

      3 or 4 day's is pretty good I think. I have been trying for 5 months to get it to work

      It's no good me speaking to the twa** at sky as they just try and blag it off with something like you need to speak to microsoft and all that cr** I have been with sky for a year now and have never been able to set up an additional e mail address a year later and a thousand phone calls speaking to teir 1 teir 3, supervisors, managers, operational managers, all of whom promised me the world and delivered nothing. I still don't have a resolution. And another thing I found out by just phoning them to ask if I was able to get mid or max yet as when I joined it was not available. I was told oh yes you went over to the mid package in August so I said ok so why am I paying 17 pound a month if mid is only 5. I was told ah I see here on your account halfway through the transfer from the broadband connect to the mid package it seemed to stop and did not go through.
      I said did it not flag up on the system that it failed the answer was no.
      Jesus why does nobody at sky take responsibility for the problems customers are having instead of trying to blag their way out of it or passing the buck

      sorry just having a bit of a moan off
      just another problem to add to my list
