      I'm no expert at this sort of thing and I really can't help anymore. The only way I was able to get my outgoing email working was done by a process of elimination which took ages to do.

      there isn't without finding another smtp server from another company, but if want one that doesn't promote it's own brand, then you will have to pay for it (ie like the 0.65pm from 1and1.co.uk)

      I have regularly praised and recommended Sky Broadband but this change is very annoying.

      When I send email I want to be able to specify the email address I want the recipient to reply to - I don't want my ISP demanding I use their email address.

      I also don't want Google holding-on to my private emails, trawling through them looking for keywords so they can target me with ads when I use their search engine.

      This infringement of my ability to send messages the way I want to has now resulted in my using a different provider to send my email. This may be the thin end of a wedge which could result in my leaving Sky altogether; I was already thinking of reducing my Sky TV package but was going to keep a minimum service so I could use Sky Broadband. I may well now ditch Sky altogether.

      This is a very retrograde step by Sky and I will certainly warn people to beware of this intrusive move by Sky/Google.

      You can still do this. As per my mail, it will state:

      Steve Allen <steve@domain.com on behalf of steve@sky.com>

      if they hit reply, it will go to your desired address.

      re your other point, not sure I get it? Any email provider can trawl your email for key words if it breachs the DPA. The recent change by sky has not impacted this at all. When you download the email to your email client, you can set it to delete off the server.

      But the problem is not everyone just hits the 'Reply-To' button, some people see the sky.com address and reply to that, or worse think its spam as the have no correspondents with a sky.com address, as far as they know. Also, I have sent some test emails and the From field shows:

      From: xxxxxxx@sky.com even though I sent from a totally different address. I want my recipients to see my email the way I want it to be presented. I know I can set-up 'verified' email addresses with Sky/Google but I don't want to have to set-up a new address every time I want to use a different addy. If I order something from a website called GreatStuff I register my addy as 'greatstuff@myisp.com' then when I get spam from that address I know where it originated from. With Sky/Google I have to give Google all my addys to start with.

      My point is I don't want my ISP, or their corporate partners, inserting an email address, which I don't want to use, into my mail as it can cause confusion and worse.

      As for the point about Google trawling email - "Google .. uses this scanning technology to deliver targeted text ads and other related information" , and I don't want that. All I want is for Sky to provide me with Internet access and a simple mail server.

      can anyone tewll me how to get my sky email and log in password, ive never used it ?!?!?!?! or needed to until now as i use 3rd party email.

      Call T1 tech support, they can verify your user name which is also the body of your email address, they will then take you through the profile and password reset so you can access your account and sky email and tools etc.

      This may be the case, but it messes you up in other ways.

      I am now unable to send emails to a mailing list becasue it expects my own email address not the Sky email address!

      Even with "on behalf of" it fails.
