Still getting nowhere with sending emails
Surely someone out there must have a similar problem as this:
I use a onetel email address through outlook using the Sky broadband service. Before Sky closed down "sky.com" and changed to "tools.sky.com" everything worked just fine i.e. I could receive and send emails. Now I can only receive emails but not send. Previoulsy, I had "mail.onetel" as my incoming POP3 server and "smtp.sky.com" as my outgoing server. I have tried changing the outgoing server to "smtp.tools.sky.com" and all the other changes which seem to be required under the Advanced tab. The four email tests work OK but the test email does not go and I get the message "Please verify the email address field". Can someone who uses a non-Sky email address and can send their emails OK using Sky broadband via outlook please respond with the exact instructions that I need to follow so I can send emails as well as receive them. If anyone can help, I'd be so grateful -HW.

Re: Still getting nowhere with sending emails
Perverse I know, but I believe you need to enable "POP" in your sky email before you can use the skoogle smtp server. Even then all your outgoing emails will have your sky address on them which is probably not what you want.

Re: Still getting nowhere with sending emails
Full instructions are on sky.com Help Center here
It is important to make sure that SSL and not SLA is on, also the user name must be correct. You must use the sky user name and password if sending via smtp.tools.sky.com

Re: Still getting nowhere with sending emails
The brutal truth is this: you can ONLY send emails using the new smtp.tools server FROM sky.com email addresss. For most of us, who have multiple email accounts on lots of different servers, this is a disaster.
There is a simple, cheap, alternative. Sign up with AuthSMTP, SMTP relay service - authenticated SMTP email service, mobile / relaying denied and SMTP errors solved.. This takes about two minutes and works beautifully, with every email account. It costs £14 a year for the basic package of 1000 emails a month.
One question: why could not sky set up their SMTP using the same system as AuthSMTP, so that it could securely handle multiple email domains???

Re: Still getting nowhere with sending emails
I cannot send messages using the new settings, I get the message:-
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account: 'Sarah G-Mail', Server: 'smtp.tools.sky.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Have checked all the settings and all look correct.
This is from a Sky e-mail which worked fine under the old SMTP.
Any ideas?
