Can't receive emails, but can send them

i recently ordered the sky package to have 16mb broadband. now i've tried setting up email address' and it's a nightmare. the default one works without a problem. but when i try to add additional address' it's mayhem. i currently use outlook 2007 and i've added the accounts, but here's where the problem starts. it'll let me send emails, but won't receive anything. when asking around people tell me about the settings but there all correct, even when i phoned the helpline they went step by step through it but everything they were saying i'd already done.
what am i doing wrong?

I've been trudging through all the e-mail posts on this site and it seems as though we are the only two suffering this problem!
I too have no problem sending but receive the 0x80040154 error when receiving, and this is on the default account, I daren't set any more up if this one aint working!! After getting the error I go back to the portal and the POP enabler has decided to change itself (or so it seems!). I have enabled POP for ALL mail but when I go back into it after trying to sync with Outlook 2007 it has changed to "Enabled for all mail since ...."
This is frustrating the crap out of me.

All pop settings are as per instructions since switchover, and yes I have tried all old settings, gmail servers etc.

Still can't receive.

Any thoughts?

Do you get error messages? Was the new account created on mysky.com and is POP enabled on it in the sky email and tools site?

That is normal and correct. I see it on my settings page too and my gmail account has always worked. Can you post the exact full error message you receive as I'm hoping you aren't suffering this:

Are you fully service packed on outlook as I think you need to be fully packed for it to work with the system?

I've already done what is suggested on that article with no success.


But...OH JOY OF JOYS!!! I applied service pack 1 to office 07 and hey presto, all is well!

Yep one thing that really should be made clear to people is the service pack level on office software, sometimes if its not up to date it can do that as it cannot communicate properly with the server if SSL etc is in use.
