Any suggestions please for email problem!
Hi,
I've just switched to Sky Broadband but am unable to retrieve my email with an email client! I am using Thunderbird 2 although as this was not retrieving my mail, I have also set up Outlook Express but still no luck!
I have looked at a number of tutorials, tips and hints etc. but to no avail.
I can send email ok:
For Thunderbird I have set the Outgoing Server (SMTP) as smtp.tools.sky.com in the Server Name Field and set the port to 587 (465 does not work for me).
I have checked the box next to Use Name And Password, and entered my full Sky Email username (including @sky.com) and Selected TLS under Use Secure Connection (SSL does not work).
However, I just cannot get the POP to work despite trying various combinations (I have enabled POP in Sky Email).
For POP I've entered my full Sky Email address (username@sky.com) and entered pop.tools.sky.com in the Incoming Server field.
I have Checked the box next to 'Use Secure Connection' (SSL), and 995 appears in the Port field.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Any suggestions please for email problem!
Thunderbird does not give any errors but although I'm not very familiar with Outlook Express, I have been playing around with it and it is giving the following error:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

Re: Any suggestions please for email problem!
I'm having problems sending both via Sky AND my seperate Googlemail account - its asking for a password.
I've not changed it, nor touched any settings, so am assuming it is a problem with Google.
My advice would be to leave it for a few hours - it will probably sort itself out.
Not much point ringing Sky - the people who may know something about it are NOT the same people you would be speaking to!

Candy, do you get a response if you ping the server?

Re: Any suggestions please for email problem!
Candy, in the window where you add port numbers, have you ticked both boxes for 'This server requires a secure connection'? I found mine only works if both boxes are ticked
