Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
Hi, I am trying to get my e-mails, and each time I try, I get this really weird message, which I've never seen before. It started about 10 mins ago.
When I click on Get Messages, a popup box appears with this message in it. If I have this right, I've used the attachment mod to upload to the forum, hopefully you should see the image.
Has anybody seen that happen before?
I am using Thunderbird as my e-mail client. Have been using it for about a year now, and never come across this before.
Thank you for your help.
John.

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
I get a similar message with outlook 2007
The certificate they are using looks like an old one as it expired in 2005. - someone at sky/google has dropped a clanger and installed the wrong/old certificate on the email server.
It should be ok to allow it - but make sure you have a virus checker that checks your emails just in case there is mischief-afoot!

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
Ok thank you. I have my virus checker check all mail and it also adds its check line at the bottom of each message that comes through.
Thank you for the reply.

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem!
Things have been fine for a couple of weeks, and now this!!
Let's hope that this is gonna be fixed ASAP. I couldn't put up with this for too long.
Ps. I'm another Thunderbird user.

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
Here is a link to an explanation of this type of error and work-around for Thunderbird and Seamonkey
Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch or Server Certificate Expired - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
it links to an add on that so
".... you can can get rid of the alert by installing the Remember Mismatched Domains extension for Firefox, Thunderbird, or SeaMonkey"
I have just used the add on and it worked for me.
I have recently seen gmail users reporting same problem, so it looks like a Google problem with an incorrectly dated certificate.
Good Luck
Dave

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
I just installed that extention for Thunderbird and it didn't work for me after restarting my mail client but if I manually check the accounts it seems to work.
Hopefully a fix for this isn't to far away as it is a tad annoying on both my Sky and Gmail account

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
I get exactly the same security certificate message appearing too, I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 (latest release).
It certainly looks like a mail server problem and indeed one where the security certificate is out of date. Plenty of posts in the GMail Help forums about it as well.

Re: Odd message appears accessing e-mails.....
Thanks for showing us the addon. It is a bit annoying especially if its more a google thing than Sky, especially with their policy of keeping records for up to 3 years. Can I ask, whatever made Sky move over to google mail dont they have their own e-mail servers, I'm not a real fan of google at the best of times.
