      New Sky/Google e-mail problems

      Sky have converted me to the new format and to all intents and purposes left me in the lurch. I can only access my e-mails by web mail. Over a week ago an e-mail from Sky said my previous contacts and messages (lost from Outlook Express) would be restored within 72 hours and I should call them if they were not. I phoned an advisor after three days and did not get anywhere. She did not have a clue. I have since e-mailed Sky on three occasions and each has only been met with a standard acknowledgement.

      I would like to have my previous contacts and messages restored and to be able to use Outlook Express again. Sky sent me instructions on how to re-set Outlook Express, but it is my understanding that I should not do so until my previous contacts and messages are restored in web mail.

      I find Sky's lack of response and the useless "helpline" quite deplorable and would be grateful for any advice.

      How did you manage to lose your contacts and messages from Outlook Express?

      Did you ever enter any contacts into the old webmail service? Sky can't do anything about contacts that were only in outlook express.

      Did you have any emails in the old webmail service or did you just have them in Outlook? Again, Sky can't restore emails that were only in outlook express.

      Have you followed the instructions for activating the new service? Enabling POP access in your webmail settings and then changing your settings in Outlook Express?

      You should set up outlook express. Sky moving any contacts or email that you had in the webmail service is not going to affect that.

      If you can log into Sky's webmail and access your email I can't see any reason why you can't enable POP on Sky's webmail 'Mail Settings' page make the required changes to Outlook Express as per the instructions they sent you and continue to use it as normal.

      Assuming you were using Outlook Express before the changes then your previous messages and contacts in Outlook Express are stored on your computer. If your contacts have been lost by Sky simply reimport them from Outlook Express to Sky's webmail.

      Thanks for the advice, ok now. Wish Sky had made things clearer.
