Sending from non-sky accounts
I have a couple of non-sky email accounts where I have a pop address but all mail has to be sent via my own ISP's smtp server. Under the old way of doing things I could send mail from these and they'd go via the sky server transparently. Now I've changed all the settings to match the sky ones of course, and also added the accounts under mail settings>accounts>send mail as.
So far so good.
The annoying thing now is that the mail that gets sent shows up as being sent by
Peixedourado [peixedourado@sky.com]; on behalf of; Director[director@mycompanyaccount.com]
which looks messy and unprofessional. Is there any way around this or do I just have to give up and... well, I dunno, get a new ISP or something?

Re: Sending from non-sky accounts
There are several ways round this:
- change ISP (a bit drastic and potentially very expensive)
- sign up for a free email account with another ISP e.g. BTopenworld (to keep it active you need to dial in every 90 days)
- sign up for a premium email account with the many email providers there are out there e.g. Fasthosts (they offer everything from ordinary POP accounts through to hosted exchange servers)
Other providers will usually let you send mail though their servers using a different "from" address.

Yeah thanks. I know about the suggestions Saturday made -I should have mentioned though that I was hoping to do it without spending money and/or incurring vast amounts of hassle!

Re: Sending from non-sky accounts
Hi There,
There is a service called Google Apps which is basically a customized version of gmail designed for use with your own domain. Follow the link in my signature to find out more, but basically you point your domains MX records at the google servers and they take care of the rest. You get POP and IMAP access and of course the webmail interface.
Everyone should have it!.

Re: Sending from non-sky accounts
On a simpler note, i was sending all my non-sky email with the outgoing server as smtp.sky.com. I assumed with the change to new mail that i would just insert "tools" to give smtp.tools.sky.com however this doesnt work. It still works with smtp.sky.com but will this stop once everyone is transferred to the new system.

Re: Sending from non-sky accounts
tools.sky.com uses SSL so you would also need to change ports in the server set up.

Re: Sending from non-sky accounts
Thanks Paul for the ports advice. I also had to change the settings in outgoing mail server [my server requires authentication] away from "use same settings as incoming mail server". Finally works ,but my wife now has my user@sky.com appended to her email address in the "from" box.
Hopefully sky wont withdraw the ability to send from " smtp.sky.com"
