Email accounts - Mac Mail - please help!

I have multiple email accounts with their own pop servers and I am using Sky's smtp server to send.

I thought I was going mad and sending mail from my sky account as the replies I was getting back were all received in my sky account.

I have just realised that although the email 'From' name is correct the email address linked to it is saying the return address is my sky account.

It looks like it is picking up the account name from the smtp server settings due to having to put a user name and password to get it to logon.

Does anyone know how to overcome this please? because I have 3 business email addresses, all having a unique return address but are all being directed to my sky account and it doesn't look very professional when you are sending from a sales business account and relpying to a "fluffy_bunny@sky.com" personal account. Not real but you know what I mean...LOL!!

      Can anyone help?

I'm very sorry to tell you that the new Sky email always does this. There is no way round it either. You can send from your email address, but the google servers (for it is they that the email passes through) always put the sky adddress back into the headers.

The alternative is to get a new paid for email provider, or use something like google apps - which is free.

Apart from telling you about not using the residential service SMTP servers to send emails for business use if I recall the "sent from" issue is how Google do things and I'm not sure if there is a work around at the moment. Try checking some of the threads in the email and portal section as a number of posters have guides and tips links in their signatures.

Hi Chris172 ..... The best option is probably a dotmac account .... For me, the sky email has always been a pain so although I automatically check the account I use .mac for everything else .... From one Chris and a mac user to another!

.mac is all sorted - it was a problem with peerguardian not sky.

Personally I wouldn't touch .mac - I have a trial account and I have never used it for anything yet I get dozens of spam emails every day.

I've been using google apps for my domains and not only is it completely free, but it now has IMAP capabilities (just like .mac) so your desktop client is always in sync with your webmail. I'm also pretty much spam free!

Shame that the IMAP facilities in Gmail have not been extended to Sky?

Re: Email accounts - Mac Mail - please help!

I use the .Mac suite of services (not just the e-mail) and find them to be very good, especially the way the address books, calendars etc. are always in synce over several computers and my mobile phone. Combined with the iDisk, and the integration you get with iPhoto and alias e-mail addresses etc. I think it really extends the whole Apple Mac "experience". The biggest advantage is you're using the .Mac e-mail servers to send and recieve e-mail, thus cutting Sky's "hit and miss" approach to e-mail.

As far as issues with Sky go, these all now seem to be resolved and it works as it always did before which is flawlesly.
