The penny has dropped - the email returns
Am I thick or what? don't answer that one please.
What I didn't realize is that to gain access to a mailbox (ie your secondary email address) account online - to set up the pop download - I had to put the first part of the mailbox address in and password. I thought this was all done by using the main user name the one I used when I first signed up to Sky.
So if any one else has been in the same boat, here's what I did:
Go to sky website and email and tools (you may have to sign out first), put in your mailbox name and password go to mail settings, forwarding and pop and enable all pop downloads and save.
Having done this I can now get emails to my mailbox email address (ie secondary mailbox) in Outlook Express but not in Outlook 2002.
If this has helped please give me the thumbs up.

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
i think that's been mentioned before - id always seen it like that but then again i seem to be quite logical....what would be the point of setting up another address if only you could access it and not the person it was intended for??
glad its sorted though-------------------------------------------

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
Erm, glad you're sorted but it is mentioned rather a lot around the threads in this site!
You don't need to put your whole address as the username though - just the first part of your additional address. ie '123456789' not 123456789@sky.com

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
You are both too kind.
Yes it may sound very basic to you but for someone like me; I have looked through all the FAQ's and missed the vital info I needed.
I'm not sure but I think Ive tried to login in the past to get my web mail with a secondary mailbox but been unable to access - maybe I misspelled the password. Anyway its all systems go now.
At least Ive owned up, I wonder how many others will?

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
that's cool, a lot of issues ive had come through have been user error OR tier 1 not explaining/checking things first which is not only time consuming but wasting money waiting to get to tier 3 when it could be done very quickly initially
oh well...-------------------------------------------

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
Sorry...
It may sound a little straightforward to me, but you're quite right, it's not obvious at first glance, and a lot of people on here have made exactly the same mistake - and lot's of them have got themselves far more confused and twisted than I am sure they would care to admit!
The funny thing is, someone will probably read this post and solve their problem, so perhaps I should just shut up.
Really glad you are sorted!.

Re: The penny has dropped - the email returns
Hi Maczone
Glad you are sorted. Having been talked through the logon procedure countless times by the customer service staff in about every imaginable variety of English accent, I think I'm putting the right data in the right boxes. Even when I explain that I've been through this many times peviously they still insist on sticking to the script rather than telling me what's really going on - or admitting they haven't got a clue.
Spoke to another nice lad this morning and he said that he was going to write my details on a list he was making and when his supervisor got in (half an hour) he would hand it to him. His supervisor would then take the list personally to the webmail techies (who clearly still don't have phnoes) who would act on it and e-mail me with the results of their investigations. Needless-to-say I'm still waiting.
I haven't started self harming yet but probably not too far off.
Cheers
