    Cant check other emails

    This is a discussion on Cant check other emails within the Sky Email and Portal Log-in forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I have a few other email addresses like Bethere Blueyonder Prodigynet And I cant check none of em. All 3 ...

      Cant check other emails

      I have a few other email addresses like

      Bethere
      Blueyonder
      Prodigynet

      And I cant check none of em. All 3 isp's are timing out but the sky emails connect fine.

      A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'Blueyonder', Server: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

      Any ideas?

      Have you been able to connect to them before today?

      normally ISP's restrict checking their email to when you are on their network - there are exceptions, but generally that's what they do.

      The other thing to check is that your Anti-Virus/Firewall software is not blocking access - if it is timing out then maybe something is blocking the message.

      Yes I was able to check. I will look into the firewall options but its strange how the sky ones come through but the firewall blocks others


      ****Edit****

      After disabling my firewall it is still timing out. Would it have anything to do with the Sky email change over thing to Google?

      It shouldn't do, the outgoing mail servers you are using have nothing to do with Sky - e.g. pop3.blueyonder.co.uk

      However if the failure of all three coincided with changes you have made to your email client, then maybe something has changed there?

      I have several e-mail accounts hosted by 123-Reg and one account for my old ISP Freenetname.

      I have changed the smtp settings and can now not send e-mails through these accounts but am able to download e-mails fine.

      I was able to send e-mail previously with the old Sky mail settings.

      Anyone got any idea why? The username and password for my account are correct because I can login to the web based GoogleMail service and download e-mails to a different computer.

      I got my Freenetname account to send e-mail but it displays the e-mail account as being sent from my sky mail address. This is annoying and can't see a way of fixing it.

      As Sky's email is effectively Google Mail these days, this little guide should fix the problem (It's written for Google Mail, but same principle applies)

      How do I use a different 'From:' address to send mail?

      Sadly that doesn't really work as required for most people, as it still retains the sky address in the sender field - see this note from that help page:

      Note : your Google Mail address will still be included in your email headers in the sender field, to help prevent your mail from being marked as spam. Most email clients do not display the sender field, though some versions of Microsoft Outlook may display "From customaddress@domain.co.uk on behalf of yourusername@googlemail.com."

      For "some versions of Outlook read ALL versions of Outlook and Outlook Express!
