    Password rejected by sky mail server

      Password rejected by sky mail server

      my account has been switched to the new email and tools service earlier this week. I have had no trouble accessing my account online. My user id and password are working ok. I can log on and get to my inbox, read emails and send emails etc. I have followed the instructions from sky carefully and made the changes required to enable forwarding and pop.

      My outlook express account has also been changed inline with the instructions in the email (i have checked them a number of times now). However each time that i try to download my emails i get the following message

      ' There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'sky email', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92'.

      I have changed my password in email and tools just incase and then changed outlook to use the new password. I still get the same message as above.

      Anyone help?

      You could give the following link a try to see if it fixes the problem

      https://www.google.com/a/sky.com/UnlockCaptcha

      NOTE: when using this it does NOT need @sky.com on the end of your username.

      Some users have had success with it while others haven't. If it doesn't work it might just be a case of waiting for Sky's servers to catch up...

      The above is probably the right answer, but you don't happen to have Secure Password Authentication ticked in your outlook express options by any chance...

      already tried the unlockcaptcha link but it made no difference. I dont have Secure Password Authentication ticked in outlook express.

      thx anyway its was worth a try

      Hi I am having the same problem, Sky changed me over to the new email server, & when using Outlook 2003 to recieve emails it fails & login box come up -
      'outlook coud not connect to the incoming pop3 mail server because the server could not accept user name or password'

      When you use the test email settings on the outlook setup it sends the test email & you can view it by login in to sky.com

      Have also tried https://www.google.com/a/sky.com/UnlockCaptcha without success

      Did the unlock page work though - I mean, did it accept your username and password? or did it tell you they did not match?

      If it accepted your details then we can probably nail down the problem to being on your machine. If it rejected them then you will probably have to wait for Sky to fix your account. - post back and let us know.

      The unlock process completed without any problem, I have now updated outlook & also tried the settings on a friends machine & get the same results
      any more suggestions

      would double check your settings 'mail settings/forwarding and pop' maby play around with it....worked for me

      I can now recieve emails via outlook 2003 - after playing around with setting on outlook & Gmail settings - all of the outlook settings are as previous & it just started working, So I guess that the server must have been the problem - anyway it is now working - thanks for you help

      The unlock page accepts my user name and password. I have rechecked the setting and am sure that they matched the sky recommendations. Unfortunately outlook still cannot downlod any emails. Perhaps in time my account with just work too?
