mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
I was hoping this would all go smoothly but what a shambles reading other peoples post.
He is one sky didn't think of.
If you are subscribed to a mailing list which is subscriber only eg only allows mails from specific email addresses.
Say you are subcribed to a support list as dave@dave.co.uk your subribed as dave@dave.co.uk because you own the domain dave.co.uk and your hosting provider forwards all mail to dave@dave.co.uk to your username@sky.com.
Well there are problems here that sky needs to fix asap.
Firstly in what ever email program you use be it outlook YAM simplemail etc. the email address field can be filled out as dave@dave.co.uk so all emails you send come from dave@dave.co.uk regardless of your username@sky.com address.
Now we have been migrated and you follow skys instructions for logging into the SSL based mail and send a mail you will automatically find that no matter what your have in your mail program as the email address the from sender field automatically gets replaced with username@sky.com so if you didnt want people knowing your username@sky.com address they will now!
Secondly in gmail there is an option to add a from address however this doesnt work ethier as all emails send now say
From YOURNAME [username@sky.com] on behalf of YOURNAME [dave@dave.co.uk]
If you are subsribed to a subcriber only mailing list all mails will bounce because the @sky.com is in the from field.
This needs removing so the from sender feld just contains YOURNAME dave@dave.co.uk and the mailing lists should work again.
Other problem is that you cant send emails to yourself so if your email luckly does make it through to the mailing list and is relayed back where your receive a copy so you know it has arrived at the list ok, you never see it because you cant send an email to yourself!!!
So you'll send mail after mail to maling lists and you never know if they have arrived.
Sort it out sky remove the @sky.com from the sender field if your dont want it there and allow your self to send yourself emails.
Finally turn off junk filtering this time i dont want to have to keep logging into the web interface just incase you identify something as spam / junk.
They are my emails i'll decide if they are spam or junk or not when i receive them.

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
Why is it Sky's fault that Google operate their email service in this way?

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
I'm afraid that those issues will never be fixed as they are "features" of the gmail system.
If you have a domain name then may I suggest you try Google Apps, which is effectively a gmail managed email service for your domain names. That would get around your problem..

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
I dont want google apps I want an email service that works properly not some eye candy web interface rubish by a company thats trying to remould standard in its shape.
Time to say bye to sky broadband in that case then. Mailing list are an essential part of everyday life for me and this google rubbish isn't worth the paper its printed on.

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
Thats the sort of "well happily take your money, but stuff your problems answer" i'd expect from sky!
It someones else fault. LOL how can you say that!
Er No its SKY's Fault I pay my money to SKY not Google if SKY choice to partner with a Google then SKY should be going to google on behalf of their paying customers to sort these problems out, rather than sweeping them under googles carpet.
A much better responce would we as SKY understand you have these problems and WILL be telling GOOGLE hang on a minute our _PAYING_ customers arn't happy, you'd better make some changes!!
Rather than letting Google enforce these "features" on your paying customer how about getting them to add a few extra options in the web interface that allow you to receive relayed messages from mailing lists, mails you have sent to yourself and option to turn off the crazy @sky.com being in the from sender field and let through whats in your email client.
Doesn't any one have a clue about customer service anymore!
I love the way the word "features" gets used for thing that people can't be bothered to fix.Last edited by aircooled; 10-11-07 at 06:05 PM.

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
I can understand your frustration - I think SKY have handled this email change appalingly - I cannot understand how thay appear to be so naive technically and seem not to have assesed the problems people could have and knowing how difficulty it is for people to try and sort out there problems with the current suport setup.

Re: mailing lists no longer work - thanks sky !!!
i agree with the last post, they should have done more research, got more staff in i have had no end of email related calls and i feel i have not recieved enough training on the matter its been upto myself to do training in my own time which is not ideal.
also the systems we use for troubleshooting dont contain any relevant information to the problems we are getting.
