Attachment types after switching to Google server

      Hi there,

I have just been switched over to the Google servers and have discovered that I can no longer send ZIP files. They are bounced back as illegal attachments.

I can get away with it if I change the file extension to .TXT but thats not the point.

Anyone else have this problem and is their a way around it other than the one I am now having to use?

Thanks for any help you can give me...

      Gaz

Do they bounce back from the sky server or from the recipient? I am sending zip files with no problems. Can you post the error message here?

Re: Attachment types after switching to Google server

      Both -

Sent email has the following message

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      'Tony' on 07/11/2007 12:37
      552 5.7.0 Illegal Attachment 40sm552059uge

Someone trying to send to me got the following...

      Reporting-MTA: dns;bay0-omc3-s25.bay0.hotmail.com
      Received-From-MTA: dns;hotmail.com
      Arrival-Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2007 04:57:30 -0800

      Final-Recipient: rfc822;grb********@sky.com
      Action: failed
      Status: 5.7.0
      Diagnostic-Code: smtp;552 5.7.0 Illegal Attachment b24si18662921rvf

Both contained ZIP files that did not have an EXE file inside.

      Does that help at all?

      Gaz

Re: Attachment types after switching to Google server

The first message is the receiving server replying with a rejection - i.e. the recipient cannot accept zip files

The second message is the hotmail server refusing to send the message.

Feel free to send me a zip file - 7novonly@skygoat.com

Re: Attachment types after switching to Google server

      Didnt work for you either...

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      '7novonly@skygoat.com' on 07/11/2007 14:23
      552 5.7.0 Illegal Attachment l20sm612124uga

Now, the only other thing is that this ZIP file contains .VB and .ASPX files, which are not executables, just plain text in reality.

Re: Attachment types after switching to Google server

That will probably be it then - If you send a zip file with just a txt file I bet it will work.

Re: Attachment types after switching to Google server

It's something that google have always done. Executables (or files that look like executables) in zip files have always been blocked.

Whilst it is annoying, it is quite common in big businesses these days.
