      Email servers down till Friday!?

Hi, so this much heralded move over to Google email has happened then. Well for me it has. Unfortunately it appears their mail servers are down during/because of the transition. Very clever.

After many attempts at loading the relevant page with instructions for the new pop details I made the changes only for Outlook to inform me that it was unable to log on. So I called up tech support (sic) and was informed, quite casually that the servers are down until Friday at the earliest!

Am I alone? I'm surprised there is nothing on here yet. Unless I am in the wrong place!

      What a shambles.

Oh ffs. wft is wrong with their tech support. He clearly stated that the servers are down. As did CS. How can it work for some and not others???

Out of interest, when did you change over...during the last 12 hours?

They have probably been advised to tell you it may take up to 3 days for everything to settle and for emails and contacts to become available on your accounts again.
Also please note that there are multiple servers hosting googlemail so a group may be down but that doesn't mean that all are down. This is how some peoples email may be perfectly alright but some may not even have access to the server.

Re: Email servers down till Friday!?

Ive had over 300 repeat emails from sky saying to change my settings!!!!

Everytime i click the link it gives the same old message, oh youve come a bit to early!!

The mails are still coming in thick and fast. Unable to stop them!

Oh and when I go back to the original email page it says I dont have an account here!! My sky email has never worked from day one anyway but it be nice to get it sorted and stop the 300 + mails coming into my forwad address.

      Regards

I changed my Outlook settings this morning. At first was getting messages in triplicate! All seems to have settled down now. No obvious downtime here.

Re: Email servers down till Friday!?

This whole issue is pathetic. Very poor.

One of the most stupid things about all this - for me at least - is that in the mail they send telling you to make POP changes etc, instead of logically giving you the information in the email, they give you a link to follow. For me, it took an age to get this page to load. In the end it did, but as my mail server is down, it's kinda academic. But for those who can't be bothered to try the hit and miss of the page loading, this is what you need to do:

      New POP server is: pop.tools.sky.com
      New SMTP server is: smtp.tools.sky.com

SSL should be checked for both.

      Port for POP: 995
      Port for SMTP: 465

      HTH someone.

Perhaps someone here can help you. Did you get a specific error message when you try to check your mail in Outlook? Could you post it on here?

Re: Email servers down till Friday!?

Now that I've changed my POP settings in Outlook etc, all I get is Outlook contantly asking for my password and username. Eventually it says invalid.

When I do the 'test account settings' this is the result:

      Establishing network connection ........COMPLETED
      Find outgoing mailserver (SMTP) ........COMPLETED
      Find incoming mailserver (POP3)..........COMPLETED
      Log onto incoming mailserver(POP3)...FAILED
      Sending test email message...............FAILED
