      Next user migration planned

The Google Migration is now planned for Wednesday 7th November. Email communication to customers will be issued in the early hours of Monday morning.

Recap on what migration means for customers ..

      - 1.1m sky customers will migrate from the SNS mail platform to the Google platform

      - Of the 1.1m, 450k customers have accessed their email once and there are c200-300k active customers using email

      - It is a big bang approach and not phased due to issues with multiple migrations taking place and Advisors not knowing whether Customers are on SNS or Google

      - There 'should' be no interruption of actual email services BUT email and contacts will take 2 days to migrate

      - We can escalate customers who need their email/contacts and resolve with SNS

      - Testing has not highlighted any volume issues but should we experience issues we can roll back quickly <1hr

Most definately, if you rely on the web interface then back all up that you can. If you use a software program for sending and receiving via POP then you should have all the details on your PC already.
Do not rely on the web email interface between Wednesday and Friday as it may not be fully functional for you.

      PaulSky:

Your comments about not using the web interface between Wednesday and Friday don't make any sense. Once a user has been flagged as migrated that's it they will have the Google mail screens. There is really no such thing as a half-way state - it's a yes/no decision.

The Google Mail pages themselves are hosted directly by Google. Sky merely provides the login functionality.

Yes, you're right in that there'll be a period when your emails are being migrated over from Sky to Google. But there shouldn't be any reason not to use the web-mail screens aside from that.

At no point do I say not to use the interface over the migration period, what I actually said in my post is to not rely on it to be fully functional through that period. There is a big difference.
We already have migrated customers that all of a sudden cannot log into the interface as something has gone wrong in the migration, we also have customers that cannot send and receive after the migration.
During the migration period customers may find they have problems, therefor they should not be fully reliant on the system being fully operational during the transition, obviously we would like everything to go smoothly but we cannot guarantee it.
