Helping Hand - Outlook & GMail
Having spent the last 72 hours pulling my hair out trying to get my new sky email account to work I thought I should pass on a few tips - after finally working it out!
1) Forget calling sky support unless it is early in the day when it appears that calls are not directed through an overseas call centre. No disrespect to the operators but they don't seem to understand peoples problems and just send you to websites to "follow procedures". Their customer care is also absolutely shocking and if you do have to talk to them I would suggest that you don't - after 7 times insisting on speaking to a supervisor I finally got one - only to be told to "follow procedure" on sky website !
2) The settings Sky tell you to use on their website are generally ok, however they miss one important thing. If using Outlook (I am using 2007) - in the advanced mail account settings set the pull down box to the right of "Use the following type of encypyted connection" to SSL - they seem to omit this important setting!
3) Should be pop.tools.sky.com and smtp.tools.sky.com
4) Remember to enable POP in GMail - via mail settings.
4)And finally the most important thing that I can tell you. You cannot download emails from Gmail to Outlook if you have sent them yourself ! (Therefore if you send test emails via outlook to yourself they will just sit in gmail and not download) - Try sending from another account and it will work.
Hope this helps people and thanks for everyones elses post ! Let me know if you have any problems and I will try and help.

another thing to add - don't wait on tier 3 as it's NOTHING to do with tier 3 tech support and tickets will be moved the email team...
